Blegh, I hate it when you're right. I'm one of the people holding on to the idea of the patch fixing things, but for different reasons... hoping that it will bring about a stir of the old crowd, and hold them long enough for the community membership to start aggregating and climbing again, instead of this constant register -> break entire RoC -> say something uncalled for -> leave...

Wow i've got to say I'm impressed. By the argument yes but moreso by everyone acutally agreeing and supporting you. I assume you've been around for awhile but I can already see what people mean about how the community used to be much more family like.

We are quite warm to those we haven't seen in awhile, but much like family, we squabble long and hard once that wears off.

One usually is when speaking about something they care about. I have spent far too much time to ever forget about this place or the community, past and present.

Well, I haven't been around that often in the past 3 years so I am sorry to hear that type of crap is more common-place these days.

What I want the community to understand is that you shouldn't be putting all your hope on the patch fixing things. Rather then be passive and apathetic about the state of affairs around here, the community needs to take a more active role. They have to be supportive in any way they can. Being respectful, helpful, following the code of sportsmanship, voicing their opinions in a positive and constructive manner, Beta-testing when there is a new version in the works, being mature and following the rules are all ways to help contribute towards this goal.

The main thing that needs to be understood is that Darkspace will never be what it once was. You cannot bring back the past. Many of the people that have left from this place are gone for good. Some may return (Such as myself) that have put a lot of time and energy into this place and remember how is used to be. However, Darkspace can only move forward and survive with a healthy and steady new crowd of people coming in, having a good experience and subscribing to bolster the ranks. That in conjunction with keeping the Community happy is what will keep this place going.

Thank you for the compliments.

Quick Background on myself, |2eason/Reason

I first joined Darkspace back on September 30th, 2001 (It's almost my 6 year DS B-day, ) during the Open Beta. About a month or two later I was asked to join the DS Staff as a Moderator. Unlike many of my counterparts I tried to moderate with as little force necessary, talking a situation down rather then take immediate action. However, I was not one to hesitate using my authority when warrented.

After about two years of dedicated service I was asked to join the Development Team, during I believe 1.480 when the "original" Dev Team was put together.

(Screenshot)
Members missing from the pic: Faustus, Nimby, Chromix, Evil Bob(Dr Evil), sunshine, Bumblebee(TheBumble) and Patrowsky(Pat).

I remained on the Dev Team until November 21st, 2004 when I resigned my staff positions and moved on. Ironically that was exactly 3 years from the day I was made a moderator by sunshine. A lot of things were going on in my personal life and my time spent here was making things worse. What especially affected me was watching this place continue to degrade and erode around me without having the authority to prevent it.

After I left the staff I played until I ended my subscription in January of 2005. It can be said I have left my mark all over this place.

So, I am probably one of only a few people that have witnessed this game and community fall apart over the years from on the inside.

So very true,

I want to make one more thing clear to those who may question my purpose for this thread and for those I have created since my departure:

I do not want to watch this game fail and I am not here to speed the decline further. The past is the past, and I want to try and help move this place into a positive direction.

PS: Key Lime Pie is ok too.

I've always thought the best way to lead is through example. Meaning for those of us that want to see a better community need to remember to show the new generation of players how to act correctly. When I came in I had a few players come to me 1 on 1 and say, "hey thats new cool around here" instead of the " n00b! NOOb! NOOB!" I tend to see now in days. More hugging and less slapping.

This guy could talk for weeks on end without a single breath, you should be honoured that he graced you with punctuation.

Agreed - Whole post. Hammer? meet Nail.

Do you realise a majority of your fleet is pro key lime pie?

Quotes:

"If you truely want Darkspace to survive, support it in any way you can. Help the Development crew out and give them feedback. Keep thinking up ways to help solve the many problems that plague this place.

You're right, but these few aforementioned things aren't.

God knows how many times I took hours of my time to playtest and come up with constructive and positive ideas that I shared on these very forums concerning the current and ongoing state of affairs only to get ignored with nothing positive in return or any kind of aknowledgement about the issues at hand.

The dev team isn't mature most of the time. And that's when they have the decency to even try to answer without just saying that we are "wrong" and that they're right and that we should just shut up.

Another quote: "I do not want to watch this game fail and I am not here to speed the decline further. The past is the past, and I want to try and help move this place into a positive direction. "

Intentions are irrelevant, everyone as good intentions if you look beyond the surface, we must look even deeper, down to motivations... And I seriously question the dev team's motivations right now. It can't be greed. I doubt it is the thirst for power. Could it be egoïsm or fear? What motivates the actions that lead to the problematic changes are the only possible source of trouble regarding new builds. Whatever these motivations may be. Motivations dictate the ultimate end results in everything we do, if you have bad results, bad underlying motivations are the most likely culprit.

There's also the possiblity that the corporate/personnal boundary of the dev team is weak, full of holes, or too thick.

We need to spot the problem and zero in on it. A good way to do that is to take a step back and look at the situation from an outsider's ( or outside observer's ) point of view, a person who can only have an objective outlook of the situation. Or if you are a bit versed in psychobabble, to use "Observing ego".

( see Paul Dobransky's work "MindOS" for further details about corporate/personnal boundaries and observing ego )

As for the communities attitude, I do agree that we should act toward each other as brothers would. Being your brother's protector, not his prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner.

BTW, it's good to see you again buddy and that you are still the "voice of reason" around here.
