Junky...yes, you can print any shape hollow, the walls can be printed to a thickness of .09" and no less. The problem is that there is support material that is printed in a honeycomb manner that holds the shape up as it cools, that still costs money. a solid ABS mandy about 4 feet long would hit the 5-6 thousand price mark. I would never print it solid. Ribs and struts would be printed within the core of the body to provide strength a rigidity, like a bridge. Plus the housings for the engine and whatnot. The nice thing about ABS plactic is that it can withstand temps up to 900 - 1100 degrees depending on the quality of it. So the engine should not cause any problems. I got a guy in china working on the model in a program called Pro engineer now but i only told him to work on it on his off time as a fun project and ill critiq it when hes done.
any more questions?

Unfortunately, neither me or the other Dev's can supply any content from DarkSpace that we didn't create ourselves, without Richards permission, which is unlikely to be obtained. Good luck in this project though. I look forward to seeing the end results.

thanks anyway. I think to get the housings correcty for an engine and such it needs to be done from scratch. However if you have any flat diagrams of a top side and front view of a mandy/siphon they would help as a reference

Apparently there was an incidence in the past in which some other company?/person? used Darkspace-like models in their game...

You never know F might be in to the idea of shopping out some of the ship models. It would be nice after all to find a scifi model in a hobby shop that's not based on Star Trek. Who know, it might start out as a niche market , but end up as full on merchandising blitz. I wouldn't mind having a model command dread and maybe a station or two myself.
