Both sides are right tbh.

If its all out worry free action you want, then DS is your game.

If its more depth and involvement before and after said action, then Eve is your game.

To say what you do has no effect? hmm think again Kan, as you said, someone takes a planet in DS and you lose it.. ok big deal, one person solo can get it back.

Someone takes your system in Eve? it takes hundreds of ships, pilots, plenty of planning execution and time to retake it, unlike DS there is no "one bomber rules them all" gameplay.

maybe break it down simply.

DS = 1 Bomber = 1 System captured

Eve = Capital ship fleet comprising Dreads, Carriers, Motherships, Titans, Escort/Combat fleets comprising Battleships, both sniper and close range config, support/recon/heavy assault/tackler cruisers, interdictor and anti-frig destroyers, assault frigates, covert ops, interceptors, scouts.

Then factor in logistics, hauler gangs with their own escorts to resupply fuel, ammunition, other consumables, massive freighter class ships with large escort fleets to ship in your own control towers defences and yes, even your own player built Station (read outpost) to take control of said system.

Hmm.. looking at it, doesnt seem accurate anymore does it?

Truth is, Eve is directed at the more involved gamer, to play 2 weeks and say it sucks.. well, its obviously not for you.

That said though, to this day I have not found an MMO that can even touch DS on that quick action fix

Comparing apples to oranges here people...

On the side note : I agree with Pete's post. EvE is just more geared towards endgame - which is reachable in about six months of skill training.

I found it boring. So I left.

DS needs to get back on its ass so I can have my fast action fix back. >.>

WARNING NOOB ALERT!!!

i played eve for my 14 day trial and gave up, took too long to get money and i kept gettin asked into obvious traps by people that just wanna kill me, now i know DS has still got potential in the SHED LOADS and if more people came back i know it would give devs and staff more incentive to work on DS fully so all you people lounging on Eve get back here i want .484 already lol.

and yes kan i agree faustus smashin job mate i aint even played guild wars as much as this, and im more of a RPG fan. all the other staff well done on a job so far but still work to do, if you want a cookie you get one HUGE one when your done to mark the achivement of the years work yall have been doing.

i must agree tho i did like parts of eve.... mainly cus bash was there as i tryed to kill summnt that he killed in one shot.... nut i dont like the idea of waiting months to get a ship but on the otherhand, it harder to get new ships on ds becouse you can lose what you gain where as on EvE you just wait and let it do itself.... i hate that wheres the fun in that, the best part of DS is the feeling you get when you get promoted. theres nothing more satisfying than getting a new rank.

What I got from a lot of these posts was that I experienced some kind of giant noobie space bubble, where nothing really ever happens and that there really are interesting things happening out there somewhere. I just have to find it. Ok. I am a fair man. I will give it another shot and seek out some of these 0.0 security regions, if I can find them.

I stand by my argument regarding collision detection, though. That is a critical flaw in the game in my eyes. They go out of their way to make there be objects in a space environment, and then let other solid objects diffuse through them by wiggling, and jump right through planets.

I am also not impressed by the lack of gravity. If the stations actually orbitted their planetary bodies, if warp paths were bent by gravity wells causing you to be redirected mid-warp, if you needed better engines to sit closer to planets... THAT would be impressive. I would think this powerful computer we are playing on would be strong enough to handle gravity calculations.

I'm not trying to flame EvE for these flaws. We all know DS doesnt have these features either. I am just saying that I await the day these features do in fact make it into space games.

Maybe EvE was a game like darkspace once, small and cosy and fun, but as soon as it started getting bigger, they focused more on graphics than on gameplay?

Just like George Lucas and star wars films.

Fair play to you Kanman.

Indeed those things would be interesting to see, but at the end of the day, it stops being fun if its an actual simulation.. it would be like MS Flight Sim just with a shuttle instead of a 767.

As for no collision detection, planets and stars are infact the only things you can warp through, and if I remember rightly it is explained somewhere in the backstory.

You do however collide with stations, asteroids, jump gates, other ships(DS doesnt have this) etc.

Steve said it right though, its more geared towards endgame where you have a significant contribution to make.

To whoever posted about prestige... MiRV bombing.. whats difficult about that? you go up and down, takes a few hours, sometimes days.

Think you lose nothing if you die in Eve? I am actually curious if you ever flew anything other than your unlimited supply free replacement starter ship, anyone who has lost a Battleship or larger (or even Steve with several thousand battlecruiser losses under his belt) will tell you it has a significant impact.

Unlike DS, ships dont just magically pop out of a shipyard, they are player built, which requires minerals and blueprints, blueprints come at the cost of several hundred million, minerals have to be mined by other players, they then have to be reconstructed taking several hours, then refitted which involves travelling over countless systems to get the equipment you want.

End story is, to say one is a better space game than the other is nigh on impossible.

As I have always said, if you want indepth involving lengthy gameplay, Eve is for you, if you want fast fun action focused on blowing (expletive deleted) up, then DS has your name written all over it.

Kanman if you want to learn more about the game get out of the newbie area's. There are different things in the game you could do.
1) Trader=buy items/ships/parts/minerals and so on. At a lower price and sell it someone else for a higher price or a higher bider.
2) Miner=mine asteroids(which can be turned into minerals ship are use to build everything in number 1)
3) Combat pilot(pvper)=It's pretty much says it's name you go around looking for a fight or work with a team of other guys/girl(yes girls) on corp wars which are in empire. Low sec wars which is a no rules and no concord protection.
4)Reseacher=buy blue prints(which is everything list in number 1) and make copies sell them off to others who want them for a cheap price.
5)Builder=you gather minerals from miners or buy them from traders were you build(everything in number 1 once again)

As for action well thats what makes the game not the same in the first place. If you want instane action then stay on DS. As for being bore guess what missions are not the only thing you can do to have fun in the game.

Money is made in different types of ways in eve as for the person who spoke about hell getting a new ship after you lose it. Guess what if you did the tutorial the AI did tell you that you will lose your ship no matter how good you are in game. Work with a group of people which means leave the newbie corp you started off in and join a player control and run corp that has goals that fit your needs. I've lost so many battleships which cost 100 mill and got them right back. You wont make easy cash if your new guess what nobody ever did. A well placed plan you can make a few hundred million isk a week or a day. Some players in my corp made a few bill in a day, but everything required team work.

As for the game being real life well like pete said it would suck i dont want to fly a space sim. Me crashing into planets and asteroids hmmmmmmmmmm bad idea . Stations in orbit of a planet that does not stay in teh same spot how would you find it to dock at in the first place?

Dieing in EvE can be about as bad as losing a scout in DS.

And also hundreds of times worse than losing a Battle Station.

A great deal of value is placed on the more powerful ships, losing them can be a staggering blow to a person, if not an entire corporation/alliance (example : Titans). Losing a ship that costs several billion ISK trumps any amount of prestige loss.

Of course if you were like me and enjoyed the standard, my several thousand battlecruiser losses weren't so bad (I made a hell of alot more in them than I lost), but at endgame, you go for the best, so it gets very expensive.

Again, EvE is very endgame, very slow paced. You can't possibly find out all there is to know in two measly weeks, you really do need to play for a couple months before you can make any accurate assumption.

If I wanted to invest that much time in something that was going to be costing me money I'd probably be married by now.
