human eyes can only register 60fps. so going over that is a waste of cpu.

so its safe to say limit it at 60

Frames Per Second.

Caps the rates that you draw information and create a "frame" per second.

For such a lower processing power game, I doubt you'll need to cap anything, But you can cap it for a, smoother ride, Instead of having a few seconds, then juttering back down to 30fps the next..

Movies use 24 frames per second (FPS) so I don't see a need for anything higher than 30 personally...

Tch tch tch.

Human eyes sense no real difference at any FPS above 72. Anything below that and you can see a large difference.

The FPS limit in the options menu will limit your FPS to whatever it is set at. If you have a fast machine that is capable of running DarkSpace beyond the norm, then you can set this to something like 60, or 90, and once that FPS is reached, DarkSpace will no longer try to use as many resources as it can to max out your FPS.

I personally run mine at 30 because I don't really care about it being faster; I haven't noticed a significant visual difference if I let it go higher.

But setting it lower, as Jack says, is to keep your computer from trying to go as high as possible and thereby running your processor and graphics card at their maxes. I prefer a cooler computer not going for the max, so I keep my FPS limit low.
