Just thought I'd throw some stuff out there for everyone to see. These are sreenshots from my laptop running linux. I must say that linux has done a tremendous job in the leaps and bounds of progress they've had toward creating a seriously usable and stable operating system. Not to mention above and beyond that into the future of serious personal computing technology.

If anyone else would like to post pictures of their desktop setups, please do so. I'd like to see how other people have "pimped out their rides" in a manner of speaking. It should be fun to see how other nerds deck out their desktop interfaces.

Click below to go to my directory of screens.

http://osiris.thegeekbox.com/~kenetiks/scrn

And here's a video for anyone who doubts that linux will replace windows =P(Especially you jack =P =D)

You're putting out all that effort to make the NEW OS work and look like the OLD os... and COMPLAINING about the OLD OS...

Think about this now...

Sorry to cut your cookie but Ubuntu was capable of similar effects long before the appearance of let's say, Windows Vista.

If Ubuntu was so damn difficult to use, requiring pi^3 amount of algorithmes to even boot, how come that year by year it gains more market share, and even games such as EVE have been made to work somewhat natively on Ubuntu through an official Ubuntu-specific installer?

If you can't figure out how to use Ubuntu or any other linux distro for that matter, you dear sir, are too stupid to own a computer, and it is encouraged to pack it up and take it back to the store you bought it from.

Cool! Where's the DirectX support again?

Oh, wait - there isn't any.

I be sticking to Windows then.

Wine supports up to DX8 reliably, DX9 with some tinkering.

Saying it's beyond the grasp of the average person is moot, as there are manuals for everything and anything you can possibly think of, from compiling applications to writing basic wrappers.

Furthermore, if gedit and gcc prove to be beyond your prowess, there are commercial DirectX API programs such as Transgaming Cedega available.

Also, nobody here has suggested for you or anyone to entirely replace Windows with Ubuntu or any other Linux distribution, I too am obligated to use Windows 98, 2000, XP and Vista for certain tasks impossible to carry out without the native Windows envinronment, yet I still run a small cluster of server computers with Linux on them, as I require stability and 24/7 uptime unless stated otherwise.

As nuke pointed out, vista is copying linux/macOS not the other way around.

As nuke pointed out to jack, one word rebuttal to the directx argument is "cedaga".

Computer OEM's are offering downgrades from Vista to XP because for the average user vista is too unusable.

But enough of that. Like I said in my original post, I'd thought it would be nice to see what kind of tweaks other people have done to their desktops.

I've put up some extra screens last night at http://osiris.thegeekbox.com/~kenetiks/scrn/ enjoy =P

For almost everything i do, i use Linux or a other #nix operating system.
Yes even tho Linux fully supports OpenGL, there where stil no games games that had a decent #nix format to make them run on linux.
So i used Windows for my Gaming rigg.
But with the advanced of the emulators e.g. Whine, i have been giving it serious tought to build my self a #nix gaming rigg.
(i'm just never getting around to it.)

I can give you some pointers about what i have seen in the GPL/#nic v/s MS war but ill skip that point.
All i got say is
