For almost everything i do, i use Linux or a other #nix operating system.
Yes even tho Linux fully supports OpenGL, there where stil no games games that had a decent #nix format to make them run on linux.
So i used Windows for my Gaming rigg.
But with the advanced of the emulators e.g. Whine, i have been giving it serious tought to build my self a #nix gaming rigg.
(i'm just never getting around to it.)

I can give you some pointers about what i have seen in the GPL/#nic v/s MS war but ill skip that point.
All i got say is

(ok need better host i know)

lol, I've had that flash for awhile

Well, the nix side of me say's go for making a linux gaming rig.

But in truth windows does offer more in the line of high-end gaming. Linux is by far getting to that point. The only problem with that is that windows is so entrenched in the gaming market, that major gaming vendors won't code for linux. They get far better incentives for basing on windows.

The problem with this is that windows is terribly unstable. I can't even begin to describe the superiority of linux over windows stability.

Windows is a blob of useless crap, all trying to use as much resources as possible. There are hidden processes, processes that don't seem to make much sense and even others are there to make sure you don't do anything bad with your hardware. Say for instance vistas ability to check 30 times a second to make sure you're allowed to play dvds you paid for, on hardware you own, in the proper place on earth(regions anyone?) resulting in playback that isn't worth watching.

Now now, don't throw the "you need to upgrade to better hardware dude! you're rig sux0rz!!oneoneeleven!!" line at me guys. Since I can do that plus running games like Alien Arena and Open Arena(q3) and get a good fps rate on a ati radeon xpress 200m running linux(ubuntu 7.10). Something xp just couldn't do.

Microsoft doesn't release streamlined programming or software. This has been proven by software engineers giving an example of software from MS that was approx 200% larger than it should have been. This requires you to upgrade your hardware.

I see a pattern forming.

Although windows does have the gaming market, it's going to lose. Hands down. Projects like ubuntu, cedaga(ton of high end gaming for linux), openoffice.org and others are already doing things windows has always failed to do.

Windows is dead, it's just to dumb to realize it yet.

But enough windows bashing. I'm still wanting to see those desktops pimped out....anyone?

I know jack can show off his pimpin' vista desktop.

Had to throw this quote out from uncyclopedia. It's just too funny and too true....roflmao

Quote:

Steve Ballmer

The article refers to Steve Ballmer, president of Microsoft and dancing, mentally deficient, foul-mouthed chair-throwing psychopath. For another dangerously unstable person, see Tom Cruise.
