4 those that care

i have just dropped my load of orange juice in sacramento CA, and Rocklin CA, was a total for both drops of 43980lbs, which means i was over gross weight for the trip, ( DOT: 80000 or less, how much weight u can have on each axle varies by state, but the standard is 12000 lbs on steer axle, and 34000 lbs on drives axles, and 34000lbs on trailer axles, also called tandems)

when i scaled out on this load at the truck stop i was 80860 lbs so I have to run with half tank of fuel the whole trip, which cut my weight enough to avoid a ticket, (FYI when tanks are full, at 8 lbs a gallon, my fuel weighs 1600lbs)

now i sit in a walmart parking lot waiting for my next load assignment

for those that care, this trip (the OJ) was 1805 paid miles, which means after fuel ,and such, i will make about $1400.00, now that i lease a truck, and am a contracter i get much better pay, next trip i will make less, as i have to make a truck payment of 590.00 (week)

also, my new truck has aquired much new bling bling, and the search for bling bling goes on

PS I lost the comb again.....no joke, I think somewhere in new mexico

holler later

well, the last time i wrote i was sitting in a walmart parking lot in Northern california waiting for a load assignment

I got one, i was sent to pick up chemically treated paper in oregon, and did so, but unfortunatly had to pass that load to someone else , taking from them a load of meat that went to denver colorado, i got 2 hours down the road, and relized that i didnt have enough hours(DOT Hours of service) to make delivery so got another load with more time on it (meaning it delivered later ) in washington state, seattle area

that load had 5 drops, and was a holy nightmare, but in this sillyness, I drove threw california, nevada, utah, idaho, back into oregon, and finally into washington.

when i empty in seattle, i sent an MT(empty) call on the Qual com, which is out satalite (sp) communications system for the trucks, and waited, after much waiting and knashing of teeth, i was dispatched to northeast washington, and told to pick up apples, in this little city that apparently excists only to load trucks with apples, its called Wenatchee. the town i mean

i ended up spending the night in their parking lot, which was no big thing cause there was a 24 hour shell down the street, and more importantly a taco bell in walking distance.

after eating at taco bell, and dealing with the end result of taco bell that came about 2 hours later ( thank the gods for 24 hour shell stations)

i beded down to wait, and wait , and wait,

i finnally got loaded around 5pm the next day with 34000lbs of apples, and scaled my truck and got to rolling, only to be stopped at a weigh station, because my company hadnt updated my oregon permitt, so i had to stop and get new one faxed to the truck stop

but once that was done and i bought a carved stone turtle necklace, i was ready to roll (ohh and i got a chili corndog...not sure what it was, but was pretty good)

about an hour down the road, the troopers have closed the interstate I84 because the mountain is to icy, and they have two semis wrapped arond each other blocking the east bound side, so i am stuck at the wild horse casino, which does have truck parking

i sit here listening to the chatter on the CD, as all the drivers complain about highway being closed and crammed into parking lot as i type this
my comb is still missing and i am sad, because i cant find another one like it anywhere

I mean the comb had a finger loop on the back so it stayed on your hand, u dont get a comb like that just anywhere

holler later

Hey, man... ...might want to consider getting hazmat certs. The kind that lets you haul JP-5 (jet fuel) and keep going towards being an owner-operator. The New Jersey Turnpike is a good paying haul.

You'll need 2 trucks at minimum in case one has maintenance issues as well as getting your own ICC license. FYI, I am a certified public weighmaster and work around this stuff all the time. Minimum payload for any of our carriers is 23 tons (which the drivers get paid a percentage of that usually) unless they are local and go hourly. Most of the drivers I deal with work for Dillon Transport (Illinois, Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina). Back-hauls are worth 1/2 freight. Of the owner-operators I know, everything starts out fine until you get some wa-hoo of a partner that starts using the fuel card to extract $$ from the business for self-gain, basically screwing you (...just thought it was worth a mention). Normally they pay for someone else's fuel at a truck stop and pro-rate it to that fella, like $.50 on the dollar or something like that.

FYI: If you get into Florida much, watch out for their scales cuz they love to nail anyone they can with that stupid inner bridge thing. Florida conviently sells an inner bridge permit for about $30.00/year I think. About 78,500 lbs. is a safe bet for Florida usually w/o the inner bridge permit.

Well, let me keep this short. Be careful of the LOT-LIZARDS!, lol.

its been a while, but i thought i would update
due to the fact that the mountain was closed, my load got behind and after the mountain openned up, i drove to boise ID and gave the load of apples to a team, that could make it on time

then they sent me back in over the mountain, to deliver the load the team had :S and once that was done i picked up 44000 lbs of french fries, and headed east again, only to get stuck at the mountain, luckly this load had enough time that i was able to get it delivered on time

only to get a call while they unloaded it, asking me to rescue a driver that was out of hours, and couldnt legally drive, by rescue i mean take his load and make delivery,

turns out he had a 2 drop produce load, the first drop was in pauls vally oklahoma (the french fries delivered to albuqurque NM) , and the 2nd drop
was in arkansaw. this drop had a problem as 22 cases where rejected, and i had to do extra paper work, and was then told to throw the 22 cases away (220lbs) of produce, turns out they was rejected because one of the boxes where smashed or somthing,

now i dont eat vegtables, but throwing away 220lbs of food was offensive to me, so i called local charities and after verifying that there was nothing wrong with the veggies ( they was piled in boxes straight from the field)
i offered them to a local food bank,

turns out that the food bank was familar with rejected product, and was thrilled to get it, so i didnt have to throw it away

wish it was ice cream or somthing cool, then i would have just eatten it all

or cheese cake, imagine 220lbs of cheese cake....mmmmm

well, i picked up a load of meat just up the road from that drop, that is going to florida, so here i sit in a walmart parking lot in alabama typing this, and eating wendies take out the baconator is the BOMB

holler later

well, i woke up in that alabama walmart parking lot to the phone ringing
was my driver manager, saying he wanted ne in a small town in florida, benton i think, for a repower,

a repower is when a driver runs out of hours and the load stops, by putting it on another driver, that load is repowered (FYI, also P is used to designate a tractor somtimes as in unit #7780P the P stands for power, as it supplies to power to a combination vehicle such as a tractor trailer
a trailer is sometimes started with or ended with T as in 9588T to denote that the unit is a trailer, and will require a P

cause u gotta hate it when your P has no T or your T has no P

well, i drove hard to the repower point, trying to figure out what was going on, after some calls i found out that this guy was completly out of hours, and couldnt drive the last 20 miles to reciever, at first glance, i thought that was BS, as i thought he just didnt wanna get stuck at a customer for hours waiting to be unloaded,

turns out the reason that i was called from 400 miles away for this repower, that that i was the closest person to the load that had hazmat endorsement, meaning i was lic. to drag hazardous materials,

and this was some nasty stuff, flamable liquid, which was fine, but its flash point, meaning the point that it vaperized, and could explode with just a spark or random heat source was Room temp.

that was why it was being transported in a refridgerated truck

anyway, i drove the miles, dropped the load and went back to a truck stop, just in time to get my next load assignment, which is orange juice going to Texas.

as first i was going to go pick it up tonight, but relized that i didnt have enough hours to get load, and had no idea if i could find parking for my truck when i did have to stop

on a side note, an old trucker in texas told me once, that there are 3 rules that every trucker keeps close at heart

1>Never pass up a chance to sleep
2>Never trade a safe place to park for a 100 miles and no place to park
3>Never trust a Fart

because of rule 2 , i am parked at a pilot in Benton florida, and will leave in morning to get load and roll west with it

holler later

PS i update this whenever i come to DS, and the reply button is there, so i can post again,
I am not sure, but it seems to randomly vanish, so thats why my updates are random

4 those that care

I made pickup of orange juice in southern florida, lake wales i think,
the following morning, and ran with it as far as i could before my hours ran out

the following day i only had 7 hours i could drive, so i traded my load of orange juice for an empty trailer just outside biloxi MS, only to sit there the rest of the day, and all night sleeping as i didnt feel well, i woke up the following morning around 10 am, and found that i was supposed to pick up a load of nursery stock ( like u see in any dept stores garden center) and take it to richmond texas

so here i sit, getting a load of pretty flowers, and trees etc. going to richmond TX

well, i got my pretty flowers to richmond TX

then i was taken hostage by our companies produce dept, which promised a load for a day and a half, but never came thru

so i was loaded with honey glazed hams (31000lbs) going to Tracy california, but sadly i didnt have enough time to make the trip, so i traded loads with a team (husband and wife team) they got to deliver my ham, and i got 25000lbs of brocclie...err broccle....ehhh veggies

drove those veggies to salinas CA about 800 miles away from where we traded in Eloy Arizona

and here i sit waiting for the docks to open so i can unload, as i am 9 hours early

nothing much happened other than i bought another GPS unit (that makes 3 i use now at same time) my truck instrument cluster is starting to look like something in starwars

i also installed an anti glare light that makes my truck cab at night glow purple, call it trucker bling bling

ohhh i was talking to my mom on phone at a truckstop in southern cali, when this nice woman knocked on the door and asked if i wanted her to detail my interior, she was very helpful, but i had recently cleaned my truck out with rags and windex, and had to say no.

this makes me wonnder if my truck is unusually dirty, as lots of nice woman and 2 men have asked if i want my trucked cleaned, i will have to ask company if i should be doing something different

ohhh got to see a camper (trailer) get caught by wind and drag a pickup truck east in the west bound lane on I-10 in arizona ..then it caught fire
was bad

and i got there right after a semi rolled over on I-210 in california, and lots of people with weird machines was cleaning pavment with white stuff while wearing "hot zone" suits like in the movie

as u can see, not much happens out here

holler later
