Now, in the spirit of good humour, I have decided to dissect the "About" section of Darkspace.net, wherein lay the general overview of the game named DarkSpace. As this does pertain to the game DarkSpace, and the "About" section is written in the English language, I have chosen to write it here.
My intent is not to inspire flaming wars and "omgDarkSpacesuxx0rzscr00disgame!" posts. Save it for your private thoughts and your PMs. My intent is to make fun of some of what the "About" section says... because, really, some of it seems silly to me.
I also reserve the right to edit this post at any time due to any dissatisfaction I may incur with how I wrote this post.
Now, without further delay...

O rly? I can only come up with "pirates" to fit this section, unless this is referring to the planets that revolt from their faction over the course of the game. Ah, well. I just thought it was silly.

Do they? I could have sworn players started out as midshipmen.

In this online universe, hundreds of players come together. . .

Hundreds of players? I know not of the strength of the MV, but, were we to have hundreds of players flying around in the game, I'm predicting that there would be considerably more lag than usual.
Besides, the only times I remember there being that many players was during free trials back in 1.480. Two admiral servers were made for the madness. It was crazy.

What? What sound plays when someone sends frantic radio distress calls? Maybe, in my old age, I've just forgotten that there is a sound.

1. Capture the planets noted with flags in the F2 menu.
2. Defend the planets noted with flags in the F2 menu.
Look at that variety! Ooo.

Spies can raid enemy installations and gather valuable intelligence on fleet locations and technology.
|
|
...What? What spies are there in this game, other than the players themselves? I don't see the option to build Intelligence Bases on planets, which will covertly provide me with data on the other factions in the game.
...Say... Intelligence Bases. Now there's an idea.

Spy drones can be attached to enemy ships to intercept valuable enemy communications!

Beacons? If so, I didn't know they could intercept "valuable enemy communications" like hahalolpwnz0rdj00. I feel like I'm missing out here.
Now, as I previously stated, I mean this post in jest. I am a subscribing member of this game, and I find enjoyment in it even though I disagree with some of the features the game currently possesses. I just wanted to make fun of some of what the "About" section has... because, like I mentioned before, it just sounds silly to me.

actually the spy thing isnt a bad idea, both beacons that allow you to eavesdrop on enemy communications or spys that can bring back various bits of technology for temperary or exclusive use. Of course that would be alot cooler if there was voice chat in the game for it to intercept but text would work too. As far as the distress signals, there are occasionally voices giving status reports or something but they seem random. Would be nice, since they seem to already be in the system, to be incorperated in the 'support', 'being attacked', etc alerts, like when I press that I need support, the suppies actually hear a automated message stating that 'name' in 'system' needs support.
nicely taken appart in any case, I didnt notice that stuff when i read over it, just assumed it used to exist but was taken out.

Yes it is a bit old, heck it hasnt changed from when i started to play.
But as you noticed "Mersenne Twister" is already touching up on the F.A.Q. so hopefully when 484 hits, we might see a update of the "About" section.

I think if you bought the game you got a coupon that was good for like, 40 prestige and some credits.

I believe you're right, $ythe. I didn't start seeing DarkSpace in local game stores until after I started playing it, though, so, yeah.
Still, if we go along with what you said, then how many people who join this game every day/week/month bought the game in a game store with the coupon for forty prestige and some credits? I haven't seen it in game stores in... yeah, a long time.

80 pres, actually, came in the coupon in the boxes. A month sub, 80 pres, and 100k credits (which at the time was more than a pittance).
Also, Mersenne: Edit Text -> TXT_ABOUT

The stuff in the About section that is wrong sounds good. Dont change the About section to match the game. Change the game to match the About section.

You just made my head hurt with what that would mean for this game.
