its my first time playing and i login to a server but i can just watch as the camera flys around the planets and different objects in space!
more like a screensaver than a game!

I have the same problem, I don't even see my mouse cursor. What's happening? Any help appreciated

If you can't see your mouse cursor, then it might be your video card drivers. I've had problems with the newer nvidia reference drivers having graphical glitches. The only thing i can think of is to change your drivers.

If you have an nvidia card, definitely use detonator in the range of 6.50 to 7.58, or 7.68 to avoid lots of problems until the newer 12.41's and beyond are supported.
Also, try hitting tab. Somehow the game is automatically putting you into observer mode it seems (which is strange and buggy as it is), but if you dont' see any buttons in the lower right for camera control and exiting observer mode so yuo can pick between entering observer mode, player mode, and logging off, try pressing TAB in game. It may have hid your console.
