for some reason, it seem AM mines do less damg than AM torps. and homing mines doesnt seem to home on anything, it just flows in one direction, forward .....

what the heck are we suppse to do with this darned things?

I heard about the tactic using mines to discourage pursuers, but the 'Homing' mines seem only flow in one direction, and it you cant target an enemy, unless u physically point your ship in his direction.

i dont want to mine the gates, been told that's cheap.

so does anyone have any hints or tricks as to use these weird things?

Well i'd say that there week due to the fact that people normaly just pile them outside of jumpgates in MV, but they still do there job in the end

thats because it works.

historically mines have either been overpowered or underpowered. they're currently the latter.

If you wanna use em, try do it as support for engagements, if Im not mistaken mines still do nice damage to systems, so you knock em out while the others kill them.

mines used to be very strong. i remember one day a couple ACs on my team (back when you could mod mines into torp slots, and when the AC had almost nothing but torp slots. 7 if i recall) put down a big minefield by a gate as we were making a last ditch defense of some system or another. anywho, i was damaged a little so i was a good looking target, so i decided to use that to my advantage and sat so that a close jump to one of my flanks would put someone through the jumpgate, and the other flank would be smack dab in the middle of the mindfield.

a kluth dread decided to closejump me

he did not survive.

i nearly didnt either.

I don't really use mines much because to be effective with them u have to bunch them all up, meaning u go out lay down the first set go back get more and repeat. And you can't realy ddo it in a very large area. I think they should make it so that you don't drop 1 mine at a time but drop a cluster.

mines ARE way overpowered. Theres no need for a single cruiser to be able to lay enough mines to kill anything that goes through a jump gate. Mines should be more practical, but less powerful
