This is a simple question. In the week or so I've been playing, everyone seems to assure me that the ICC's Escort Destroyer is incredibly overpowered. I've even been told that one ED, totally unsupported, can take out three stations at once.

I'm just not seeing it.

It has eight beams and four railguns, along with four shields and four armor slots. Just now I was fighting two UGTO Cruisers at once in one of their systems (I forget what it's called- it was one hop towards Sol from the center), and admittedly I was fighting a little cheap. I was staying outside 400gu as much as I could, but c'mon, two cruisers vs one destroyer! Anyway, I managed to live long enough to fire every single shot that was in all four of my railguns, all at the same cruiser, and the guy- without dodging, I don't know why- had taken so much damage his armor had actually dropped to the stunning low of 64%. He had 100% hull.

How is that overpowered? Maybe if I got in close with the beams I'd do a crapload of damage, but they'd shred me with torpedoes before I got that close. That doesn't seem overpowered, if anything it's a bit weak. And yet now I feel like I've been branded an exploiter by everyone in the MV due to them loudly accusing me of using the ED- which, of course, everyone knows can blow up a star by glancing at it and can destroy the entire MIR by itself.

So please, explain to me why this mediocre ship is so hated.

I believe the beams can be modded for pcannons (and the railguns can be replaced too) which gives it like 8 cannons which can do ALOT of damage... can't say for sure as I'm unable to play in .483, but that's the gist of it as far as I know..

8 beams + 4 rails can be modded to 12 p cannons which is far to many for a dessy to have.... high speed + 12 p cannons make it hard to hit but makes it very powerful vs dessies and above...

What you did, m'boy, was flying the ED as it was meant. As a Point-Defense vessel.

What they mean by overpowered's what the poster b'fore me said. Switch out the Point-Defense for cannons and you have a ship that has more cannons than the average dessie, and some more space for energy generators, too.

You don't even sound upgraded, if you had modded those beams and railguns to Particle cannons and upgraded them to their highest level, you would have hulled both of them.

Railguns suck, and beams are basically useless on ships that small.

The only reason you didn't succeed through exploitation, is because you don't know how to play, you're only a commander, so by all means use the ED, hopefully only until you get a bigger ship though.

Also, good luck getting "shredded by torps" in a ship as fast as the ED
