SCIENTIA, Epsilion Caranie Aa, May 25, 2269 - In what has been described privately as "an unmitigated disaster" by unnamed Scientia Laboratories staff, the planned demonstration of new K'Luth fighting technology got off to a rocky start and was eventually derailed by a Pirate invasion and the breakdown of civilities in the area.

The renowned scientist Dr Jona Applegate was on the scene by 14:00, talking to the various pilots gathered at Scientia awaiting the event. Many had noticed the development in the Great Reef nearby; a series of gates were setup as the boundary to the test area, as well as a pair of wormholes spaced a few hundred galactic units apart with the odd names of Lobster Bait and Lobster Trap. However, Dr Applegate wouldn't address them before the event, simply encouraging the curious to "wait and see."

In her introduction, there was much grand speech of change for Humanity in its struggle against the K'Luth, broadcast freely for all gathered - this despite sensor indications showing that some K'Luth ships had gathered as well. There was much tension expressed in fleet communications about the trustworthiness of the gathered enemies, including those unable to be seen. Luckily, amidst the skittishness, UGTO Grand Admiral Xpli$it was able to successfully plead for calm, much to the pleasure of the UGTO High Command.

After her introduction, the good Doctor led the participants to the Great Reef, where they gathered within the delineated test boundaries and witnessed asScientia staff released a "K'Luth Test Subject" near the Lobster Bait. Though many of the gathered crews went to high alert, Dr Applegate assured those gathered that the subject was entirely safe: as the demonstration would show, it had been stripped of almost all of its intelligence. The demonstration was to show how easilyK'Luth could be controlled when using their new technology.

The test was supposed to show how the K'Luth subject would mindlessly travel back and forth between the wormholes. However, in an embarrassing moment for the lab, as Dr Applegate was explaining their ability to be controlled, the subject made a break and made a beeline out of the test area. Responding quickly, Fleet Admiral Veronw of the ICC chased the subject and tried to protect it from overzealous attackers, earning him a commendation from Representative Lissierre, but alas, KaasboeR and Little Pet Slinki were able to destroy it, ruining valuable research efforts.

At around the same time the experiment had gone haywire, however, a band of Pirates jumped in. Led by notorious villain Edward Rogen, they assaulted the planet, invaded the laboratories, and made off with the data and prototypes from the experiments. While many of the Lab personnel were at the demonstration, hundreds were murdered as the Pirates hacked through the complex and sought to keep them from sounding an alarm. However, with so many forces nearby, there wasn't much chance of them succeeding undetected, and the battle was soon joined by members of each faction. Plus, Pirates being who they are, as soon as they were spotted, they immediately started taunting the nearby militaries about their thievery.

A Pollo Diabolico was the first to laugh at the humans, claiming to have stolen their materiel. He quickly jumped out towards Delta Pavonis, with pleas from ICC Representative Lissierre to track or capture him. Leading the charge was UGTO Grand Admiral Sixkiller, who destroyed the vessel. However, analysis of the Pirate flight patterns and protection of a pilot named One-boot Willy led the leadership to believe he carried the bulk of the precious cargo. Upon his jumping out of the fight, Sixkiller was able to continue demonstrating his excellent ship tracking skills, following Willy through a number of jumps. When some pirate reinforcements showed up to defend him, brave UGTO pilots Sixkiller, Fleet Admiral doda and Vice Admiral deathblave1 ably attacked the pirates, though Willy was able to sneak out of melee while the UGTO were distracted.

In the aftermath of the Pirate withdrawal, Scientia was still controlled by a few roving bands of brigands; Fatal Squadran pilot Lloyd 16 was the first on the scene to reassert control of the planet for civilization. The laboratory is thankful for his services and plans some form of recognition for his service once the labs are rebuilt and the planet recovers.

All the personnel at Scientia Laboratories and the offices of ICC Representative Lissierre and UGTO Vice Chancellor Kitashiro wish to thank Humanity for its attendance and service. The K'Luth Tribal Council also commends its pilots on their performance in aiding the failure of the demonstration and the theft and possible destruction of the research and prototypes.

On behalf of the UGTO Chancellor, High Council, Senate, and myself, I wish to extend our sincere condolences to the scientists working at the Scientia Laboratories. We are immensely thankful for their service, even if their announcements do not always go as planned. Regardless, the United Galactic Trade Organization is committed to the future success of the Laboratories and will continue to support them however we can. Provided the ICC don't use this as an excuse for some sort of stunt, we will continue to faithfully fulfill the obligations of the treaty.

I would also like to publicly commend some of our fine pilots for their performance in the events at Scientia.

Grand Admiral Xpli$it: For your adept handling of the chaos and confusion of so many ships in a small area, and your attempt to keep everyone focused. Your assistance during the demonstration was invaluable.

Grand Admiral Sixkiller: Your tracking skills are by now legendary, and your successful tracking of multiple pirates over multiple jumps is quite impressive. May every pirate aspire to the skills you possess.

Fleet Admiral doda: Your perseverence and dedication are clear from your support of Sixkiller in pursuing and attempting to stop the Pirates. Not giving up on the battle despite poor odds, a highly maneuverable enemy, and great distance from the support fleet speaks highly of your bravery.

Vice Admiral deathblave1: Even for a relatively young officer, you displayed tremendous bravery and fortitude in the final battle against the Pirate forces. Your prowess in battle no doubt contributed to the destruction they suffered.

The UGTO also wishes to thank the pilots of the ICC who contributed to the good order of the proceedings and in neutralizing the pirate threat. Your efforts, though under a false banner, are valuable, and we appreciate the contribution to the peace and stability of our Scientia joint venture.

We are not, however, impressed with some of your members, destroying valuable test sujects who are, if anything, property held jointly by our governments. We shall be petitioning Exathra for restitution from the damage caused by your overactive and blood thirsty pilots Kaasboer and Slinki.

May you see better success in the future Scientia. Good day.

The ICC would also like to thank Scientia Laboratories for their efforts in the demonstration on Sunday. Dr Applegate did a fine job and we thank her and her colleagues for their contributions to Humanity.

Like the good Vice Chancellor, we would also like to thank the contributions of some of our pilots to the event.

Fleet Admiral Veronw displayed foresight and bravery in attempting to safeguard the K'Luth Test Subject. Given the threat from all the surrounding vessels, his actions were selfless and impressive, and we as well as the Scientia staff appreciate his attemps to restore order and salvage the experiment even when hell was breaking loose all around him.

Second Rear Admiral Lloyd 16 was able to recover Scientia from the Pirate invaders, reasserting civilized control on the planet and preventing the entire planet from being destroyed.

We also wish to thank the entire Fatal Squadron for their assistance with the planet; even if they weren't able to maintain control until today, their first landings and efforts at minimizing damage were crucial to the survival of the Laboratories and critical personnel on the planet.

We also wish to thank the UGTO who were able to dispatch the Pirates, venturing far from the planet to do so. This incident shows that teamwork and the setting aside of differences can lead to mutual benefit. Perhaps it will set the stage for better cooperation between our peoples and forces.

The ICC looks forward to the day when Scientia is rejuvenated and back in the business of serious science, and will do everything we can help bring it back. Until then, live free.
