I was inspired by today's screenshot on the release side of an ICC Missile Dread mid-jump and the thoughts always bugged me that you can't get rid of the Mid-jump countdown or move it or anything. There can be some really spectacular screenshots to be taken... but there are numbers in the middle of it?

Therefore I propose one of four things.

1) Move the jump countdown to the top of the screen up near where the chat options are, possibly replacing the Credits count, as they are no longer a part of the game.

2) Create a hotkey to disable the view of the jump counter. I had suggested initially that it be NP9 but was informed that this is reserved for grouping, so thats out... possibly the Numberpad Delete/. key? Or maybe some random key out of the keyboard itself that isn't used often?

3) Create an option in the Setup to select the position of the Jump countdown - center, bottom, top, or anything else you can come up with.

4) Make it movable. Click on the jump countdown while its active and move it anywhere you want on screen. It would have to reset every time you restarted the game so if you move it off screen its not lost forever.

Any other suggestions?

its sounds like a minor adjustment but one that could result in very nice art work.

i second the move the timer suggestion.

great idea, although sometimes the timer just tends to be invisible for me O_O

I think, given the way the interface works and our general programming skills, the only easy (and thus viable) option is #1.

But I haven't looked at interface code much, so I could be wrong. And I have no idea how hotkeys are set, so that may be a lot easier than I think. Adding functionality to allow interface edits, though, (ie, moving the countdown by clicking on it) is too complicated. The setup option might be possible; again, ignorance there.

I'm still hoping DS will come up with a good way to allow players to customize the UI themselves, but thats unlikley.

How hard would it be to have customizable in-game huds I wonder... even just change the colors..

Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves. Although one day I dream of an I-War 2 esq interface, I know GUI's are probably are among the most complicated and irritating things to program, probably more so than some aspects of the game itself.

May want to move the jump timer to the lower left box of stuff (Num 1), as it has most to do with all the ship systems.

We had the color in the past.. wonder how that was done.

That's easier than placement, though.

I would think so... it would mostly entail a graphics or a color code in relation to that specific readout wouldn't it? What would be best is a color coded hud surrounding the viewing area based on your faction...
