i got this idea i think it was Pride of Hiigara he said something about a sy station and it got me thinking

now it would require a bit of coding so im not saying anytime soon.

a shipyard station pretty much is self explanitory a station that doubles as a Mobile Shipyard (These would be RARE ships as they are only avalable to Marshals with Platinum Privateer)
the weapons system would be similar to the Support Station

it would hold a certain amount of resources (say 50,000 give or take) in a special cargo hold and have a tech level high enough to spawn cruisers

i think this would be an interesting addition to an already interesting game

I do like it, but of course there's bigger priorities =P Also, it might be better if it could only spawn dessies and smaller.

I think if u compair the relative sizes, crusies should be possible. The limited number of resources would limit the number of ships it could spwn. Unless ur get a fleet of tranny bringing resources to it, but that's also teamwork, and should be rewarded.

One of the main issues would be getting the resources. 12,000 resources would be a bit... eh, and rather than bring a bunch of transports, I'd rather have those guys fly other things.

As cool as Shipyard Stations sound, they're not really practical nor useful. Having something fancy-smancy like this could only work in events, and then if they manage to spawn ships around another ship... Thus creating a sort of beehive station for enemies to spawn from.

On the other hand, with my talks to draff about Dev stuff. we did come to a real suggestion to have a ubber neat-o-freek Station that you could spawn from. But lets not go in to details since they don't even exist.

NO! no station that can spawn players.
While in fiction a station might have a couple of corvettes or even a frigate docked for its own reconnaissance, defenses or other possible reason. The would just not work in DS. There are limits what you can do with the game and this is one of them.


/me thinks of a station jumping and leaving a trail of newbies in corvettes.

whoao never saw this topic before oh i was screwing around in the editor and i managed to get the station SY =P =P =P =P lol i was just copying and pasting buildings in to the station and some times even SY planets lol and u dunno what i did but manage to get a SY but it was low tech like a gate

With 1.500 there is no longer possible to live edit a map so his method no longer works
+ doing it that way is just purely unstable, for fun yes it works. but for a full-time feature, NO.

In addition to all the extra things required to balance it.
Need a new station for every faction that has one.
station: no offensive weapons, some Electronic Warfare and the Shipyard device.
Spawning a station cost what? resources oo thats fun a light transport costs more resources than a station can carry. so it costs energy ? how/who to code that? and How to balance the spawn restrictions. what happens if a enemy got close, do we get "Station under blockade"? or do we want the tactic of a station jumps/WH's in and we suddenly have a fleet of frigates spawn out of nowhere.


Idea is nice, but currently i see no advantage of creating one.

And no again, just to make the point of the no more obvious.

Stations can already do virtually everything. This is already a bad thing because they aren't really that hard to get anymore and tend to get horribly overpowering once you get a half dozen of them together.

The very last thing we need is make stations the final nail in coffin for planets. Right now their only use whatsoever is to spawn something bigger than a frigate.

While that doesn't seem that bad, when you consider there are well over 200 planets in the MV and you only need one to do this, planets in general beyond thatone are horribly insignificant.

Add in a shipyard station, and you practically don't even need a planet.

Not to mention the dozens of other problems that it causes like fleets appearing out of stations for no apparent reason (remember, garages), shipayrds being even more overabundant, etc.

Just no. Come up with suggestions to make planets useful not even more insignificant, please.

I really have no idea why you got all these negative posts on this JBud, I personally think it would be a great idea. I do agree that it would cost resources and take energy and could only spawn corvettes and frigates, and that it could only spawn like 3-5 ships from it, and it could spawn AI or players(like newbies). And there could only be say, like 2 in-game on a faction. That way, it wouldn't be overpowering anything. We have already been told that it could be done, although the method a little unorthodox. But this dose have a lot of potential, if people would only stop thinking of the negative effect and started to think of the good it could have.

I remember being a newbie, all i would ever do when i got the chance was to fly around a station while i was in my frgt and want to be part of it, Now these newbies can. And it would really give them a chance to learn from the experienced players that fly the station, It is where the highest and the lowest ranking players in-game can meet and work together. Out of all the good this could do I really don't understand why people are treating this like the Anti-Faustus.
