I'm making a thread for anyone who has a good technique to fight off a charging EAD with all reflective armor.

Restrictions:
1.) limited to 1 on 1, dont say: i'll ram 2 Line Stations up ur exhust pipes.
2.) MD pepering u to death with missiles swams<== I came up with that one already.
3.)Krill siting in a planets' dictor field, lobing core weapons while being reped by plats was effective. but still not 1 on 1.

Thus far, i have not met one ship that could make my EAD run, or close to runing, in a even fight.

I'm sorry, but I read the words 'even fight' and sorta stopped trying to come up with something

I'm waaaaaaay too much of an oppertunist.

And besides, the moment you begin to win, it is by default an unfair fight. Why? Because you're winning and the other person is loosing. It's not fair to the other person, as the conditions of the fight are unfavorable to him in that instant.

w00t for skewed logic...

I'd wager that my Combat Dread, if I could manage to keep you at range, would shatter that armor without too much difficulty.

Care to test it?

in short: close combat is out of the question, the ead will punch through any armor and shield. After that comes the system damage those flux weapons will do.

So my bet too lies with cannon ships. they have the range and enough firepower to do a number on all reflective armor.

@pak and jim, offer accepted, stop me for a 1 on1 any time u see me in mv. lets try to record this.

@coeus could u be abit specific, was this when i was chasing a MD in circles around Kore, with ur siting 1k away ioning?

I'm not hearing anyone suggesting AD, is this a concensus now?

What about Nest or Line station? think their armor will hold out against EAD?

Seeing as the EAD is one of the killiest ships in the game, there's not really any opposing vessel that will stand toe-to-toe with it.
However, seeing as it's also one of the most sluggish vessels as well, I suspect that EAD-killing tactics would revolve around outmanoeuvring it. I'd suggest a cruiser armed with cannons, missiles, and/or torpedoes. Obviously, there's nothing stopping it from jumping on top of you if it's facing you, so it's necessary to either plan on surviving an opening volley (reflective armour, perhaps) or somehow gain the tactical initiative. Seeing as the EAD is armed primarily with front-mounted beam weapons, staying behind it at a distance should allow a good pilot to slowly kill the vulnerable rear armour.

Or, of course, get several cruisers. DS isn't primarily a duelling game, after all.

Both the AD and the Stations depend upon beams for their close-range firepower. They would be forced to fight the EAD on its terms, and it's a specialist at what it does. It is, in fact, elite. The best bet is to force it to fight in a situation where it can't play on its terms, i.e. mid- or long-range.

This is why I suggest a Combat Dread, because they've got a heavy cannon armament and little reliance on beams. Circle the EAD and keep broadsiding it.

For the rest, what geja the wise said.

Just had on fight with Jim, this is from my perpective:
He had me at the out set, when i jumped in we were at 1800gu apart. well out side my qst range.
Furtunatly, I anticipated this and jumped in at full speed.
Nonetheless, it took about 2min for me to chase him down will zig-zaging, i'd say i lost about 30% front armor and maybe 5% from left and right.

I DONT think Jim was moving at full speed, most of my qst where hiting him.

He jumped 1700gu away, I boched a jump, landed 400 infront of him.

I thought i was dead right there.

Jim turned away while fireing, i lost about 70% of my fore and left armor. but the range was closer, so my HCL and proton torp were in play.

He jump again, but turned toward me, going for the kill. I was at 94%hull
I jump 250gu facing him and let lose full alpha--execpt flux. I had almost 80% energy still.

Jim lost most of his right armor at this point, and i fluxed. He turned his aft towards me. i went back to only HCL qst and torps, he aft was gone, i flux again. He jump. i jump.

Jim was at about 66% hull, me at 60% hull, Jim jumps again when 2 kluth dreads+1ugto frig showed up. Our fight got interupted before i could ask them to stop, so the rest dont count.

Overall, id say i won that one,----i was at lower hull, but Jim had major sytem dmg, didnt even know how he managed that last jump.

I was till at 50% energy when i was ready to point jump his CD again, so i feel that 1 more alpha would have stoped his next jump, 2 would have took out all his weapons, and by then my front reflective had regenerated to about 18%.

In evaluation: I must admit, someone with jim's skills could effectively countered the EAD with a CD at long dist., i would not stay in a fight under 60%hull unless my target was critically wounded. And most of the dmg I inflicted on his CD was AFTER I was at 94%hull.

Now, the above is my perspectvie, let jim give u his.
@Jim, I would like to redo this if ur willing, i want to see how the endgame plays out. How were u doing energywise before ur got attack by kluth dread?

I think I was at about 10 gu/sec, to maintain energy. And yes, the starting range did give me a nice initial advantage--I was intentionally cruising some distance from the gate to encourage that.

Unfortunately, Combat Dreads don't have a whole lot in the way of close-range firepower. I think I hit you with my beams, and as I turned brought my SABOT Rockets into line, but other than those I wouldn't have done any more damage at 400 gu than I would at 1500.

I was constantly re-directing shields to face you, so I think they took the edge off the flux. But yeah, virtually all of my systems were in the red at the end and the jump drive was probably hanging by a thread.

I have to agree that in the right hands or with a little support, a CD could take an EAD no problem. Of course, an EAD in the right hands or with a little support could do the same. The critical issue is whether the CD is able to hold its distance. If the EAD brings a Dictor along, the CD is doomed.

Incidentally, every time I jumped was an e-jump that I aborted immediately after it started. Hit Shift+J and then just as the jump begins, hit J again. Carries you out of close-range but, if you do it right, leaves you inside mid- or long-range. And it's a lot faster than going to Nav and plotting a jump. Just have to make sure you're not pointed at a planet or something.

And yes, I would certainly be interested in a rematch.

i got close and let the splash damge help me out ive mange to beat two ead ships in this verson i got rel close to them so splash would help me and hurt them at the same time evens the odds a little makes them chose to fire the qst even if it hurts them
