Online gamers, bow before the king.

According to developer Blizzard, the recently released World of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King sold over 2.8 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability, making it the single fastest selling PC game in history.

In an official statement, Blizzard CEO and co founder Mike Morhaime expressed thanks.

"We're grateful for the incredible support that players around the world have continued to show for World of Warcraft," he said. "Wrath of the Lich King contains some of the best content we've created for the game so far, and we look forward to seeing even more players log in to experience it in the days ahead."

He didn't, however, express much surprise. That's because the second fastest selling PC game of all time is none other than the first World of Warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade, which sold through roughly 2.4 million copies in its opening day.

Those numbers are just as stunning as they look. To give some context, it took EA's chart-topping evolutionary simulation Spore a good three weeks to hit the two million mark. And with 11 million active Warcraft subscribers out there, expect more records to be broken before the year is over.

lol, haft to give it to blizzard, when they put something out there are things about it:

1.) Its high quality
2.) It is well loved
3.) it is almost bound to break records

I am a blizzard supporter and even though i do not play WoW and have not gotten the expansion, i already knew right when they announced it, that it would break records.

4.) Almost certainly not innovative, different, or otherwise revolutionary.

Not that thats a bad thing. Sticking to tried and tested ways means it almost always works.

But its still boring.

As much as I love to wave the banner of Chris Taylor over the dead bodies of -craft RTS's, I can't help but cringe and think WWWRRRYYY when I look at Demigod. A fun looking game, made by ChrisT's studio, that is inspired by a custom map on Warcraft III.

Will still get Starcraft 2 for the story, maybe. Never really got into the Warcraft lore save for a few books. And Diablo 3 will be much hotness, until Borderlands comes along.

The real Irony is that within 24 hours of releasing the expansion, a few people already hit the new level limit and a raid party had already completely cleared all of the expanded area raids...

Now Blizzard is scrambling to add new content via a patch to make the expansion more challenging.

I don't understand why they're trying to cater to .000000000001% of the server population with that move. I always thought their strategem was to cater to a larger portion while stile giving people with no life some small scraps every now and then.

72 hours.

It was also two guilds of professional gaming backgrounds, who emerged under one name when the expansion hit.

Two super guilds, collapsed into one, beat one raid within 72 hours.

It's not stuper difficult. It's also akin to Burning Crusades 'Karazhan' - which takes no-longer than two hours at most for people towards the end of the expansion.

It really is no surprise to most people.

Which only happend due to powerlevelers, who've had years of experience.

The expansion itself is filled with ALOT of content before level 80, they just already knew the places to grind and did so while skipping everything else.
