Installed Windows 7 Beta today and got DS running with little to no trouble. Here are the steps I took:

1.) Installed to c:Palestar - Avoid UAC alltogether

2.) Right Click and check every executable to Compatibility XP/SP2, Run as Administrator

3.) Run clientsetup.exe

4.) run client

5.) hit update

6.) Click yes to allow Firewall modifications

7.) restart game (let it crash as usual) and Win 7 will automagically fix it.

8.) Next time it will want to send trace.log, let it or delete the log manully to get rid of the bug report message.

9.) restart the game again, all is okay now.

The only real bug I uncovered in this process is that I turn the music off in client setup but it still plays in game. I even tried removing the mp's in the folder and it still plays the music.

Hope ths helps everyone out,

-RH

The issue with the music is that you might not be writing correctly to .Cache/DarkSpace/config.ini.

Jack,

I completely removed the folder ../Music. I also tried to just remove the files in the /Music folder. Music still plays. Does the client use a default piece of embedded music if it doesn't find config.ini? That is the only assumption I can make since the files are not even there yet still play.

Bizare...

Just finished installing my copy now... Will try and see what the problem is (if it doesn't BSOD again).

just out of curiosity if you can send the crash dump files to me at havoc@gawds.com and tell me what hardware you are using maybe I can help with your BSOD problem. How old is your hardware and type?

All fixed. My fault. When I copied my old directory over the shortcut on my desktop pointed to the wrong folder. Fix the shortcut, deleted my old folder of DS and re ran update. No more annoying game music. Music workinf as designed now. No bug, PEBKAC.

Nice! (This is Backy)

Just installed and GCQL error'd out on the first run, which made me a little sad, but luckily for Windows 7 (and I think this could be its saving grace), it recognised that it required compatibility settings, and automaticly set it up for me.

Currently in GCQL, updating DarkSpace!

Note : I'm doing this the novice way - no setting of any admin settings at all, or compatibility settings
