Yes, it's not the image that's wrong, it's the viewer's aspect ratio.

Or they're being viewed from an angle.

I measured it in MS Paint.

Big circle is 327 pixels tall, 376 wide. Little circle is 81 pixels tall, 92 wide.

Okay, so you need to adjust the aspect ratio of your monitor's display to 1.17757:1, in order to see the correct image.

That, or, as I said, the circles are on a flat plane that's being viewed from an angle deflected from the vertical, like in isometric RTS games.

Seriously, they're circles. You just need to free your mind.

A battleship with hundreds of machine guns would be awesome.

Ahh but that patrol boat had it's uses, uses that the big battleship with the big guns couldn't do. You never saw patrol boats vs battleships.

In total agreement with you there, Tbone.

As for the patrol boat having its uses, Sparkle, that is true, but the physical fact is that it is smaller than a battleship, so you couldn't put 18-inch guns on it, regardless of how awesome that might be.

Although I suspect someone right now is furiously working in photoshop, swapping the armament of a battleship and a patrol boat.

You don't put 18-inch guns on patrol boats. You put torpedoes on patrol boats, sneak in close and blow the battleship out of the water.

That's why they invented the torpedo-boat destroyer, later shortened to just "Destroyer." To screen capital ships from torpedo attack by dinky little boats, because the BB's big guns couldn't hit them very easily.

Which gives those destroyers some very very hefty firepower right? Hefty but with a specific purpose.

Just in case anyone didn't realize, I'm trying to draw a correlation with Darkspace's ships. Our destroyers and smaller ships have no unique purpose like their real life 20th century counterparts did. Whereas a WWII battleship won'twant an enemy destroyer or patrol boat near it due to torpedoes, in Darkspace a dread doesn't care if an enemy destroyer is nearby. I usually ignore them entirely if it's a player, and enjoy completely wtfpwning them if its an AI.

HINT: Devs please think of ways to give our smaller ships a real purpose! The game shouldn't just be about "the biggest guns on the biggest ships win" because this isn't your typical MMO.

Harder to do than to say, I know. And I know you guys hate hearing the WWII real life comparisons, but you really should draw inspiration from WWII naval battles because they have all the variety and specialized ship purposes this game needs (example, destroyers weren't just smaller, faster versions of a battleship)

Funnily enough, I started a thread on this topic in the beta forums.
