But Maya is oh so expensive compared to what you get. There's quite a few programs out there that are much cheaper and does almost exactly what Maya does.

Meh... where do I start? I dont feel like writing a paragraph so I'll just use bullets.

-waaay too blocky/geometric, you need to refine the shape
-textures are nice, but could be better
-whats with the red tubes? kinda random tbh.
-why are the guns bristling from the hull? its kinda akward seeing a projectile flying 30 degrees to the right out of a straight barrel
-fighterbay looks nice, but needs some work
-giant gannon? as cool as it sounds, it has no place in (the current version of) DS
-main body of the ship looks like a pryamid with the tip flattened, its an akward shape; consider having a oval/octogonal shape that wraps around rather than flattening out for the main body, but also avoid blocky shapes like rectangles.
-same thing goes for the pyramid dome-thingy with the blue panels at the fore section of the ship, its kind of an eyesore
-the nacelle on the aft seems out of place, on that note; don't put guns on every square-inch of the ship.
-I probally already said this, but the red is blegh
-Overall it looks pretty cool, but it's more ICCish than pirate. Refer to existing pirate ships for inspiration, this looks like something from the stargate series O_o.

He's right though.

It's rather blocky and geometric. Look at the other Darkspace ships as guides to go buy. Their not so geometric.

As for visible turrets, there isn't much need for them in Darkspace since the weapons fire from various arcs and angles, and as far as I know, the Medusa engine does not support visible and moving turrets.

Also, turrets on models are NEVER made on the model themselves. Their a seperate model so they can move with firing arcs. And for the big Cannon.. Uh, no.

Its advice, you arent going to improve if everyone says "OMG YOUR SO AWESOME"..... but hell, screw it; if wanna live in your world of fantasy, go for it, I won't stop you.

It's in the Fan-Art section, it's going to end up getting criticism. Infact, we aren't even the first to criticize it. You just have this hate campaign against us because we're abit more detailed with whats wrong, and what could make it better.

In all honesty, it's a good start. Alot better then my first ship I ever tried making.

Obviously you put some hard work into those models and they are rather good for a novice, utiliszing textures correctly I noticed, and making a model that looks like a decent ship, however it seems too blocky, it needs more definition and shape. (but this is to be expected for starter models)

Then It looks more of a Cruiser type ship, or even a large destroyer, the model itself seems to suit smaller ships, and I think darkspace needs to add more smaller ship designs - get away from the dreadspace ideas.

Otherwise well done, although your going to need to work on that attitude else you'll crash and burn, this is the internet and we are human - things are going to be judged for you to better yourself, I suggest either not posting on darkspace at all or posting with a pinch of salt and taking each piece of criticism to better yourself.
