I think I remember reading something a long while back about making a first person shooter portion of this game so we can cap planets that way instead of the method currently used. Or am I just wishful thinking...lol?

Yes, that idea has been thrown around many times. There is nothing, to my knowledge, of it in the works, however.

True.. this is a long time goal of mine is to have several games that you can choose from that all use the same backend universe in some way.

A game that caters to all types of gamers (FPS, RTS, etc), all under the same subscription... I can forsee the first game to do that being very popular.

Why not make it part of DS itself. Maybe add a teleport command on the F3 screen if you are in orbit of that planet. While on the planet with your weapons killing off the infantry in some metal of honor type of way...lol, in your pursuit to capture the domes, your ship will alert you of enemy fire or enemy detected via a voice or a visual alert so you can disengage the infantry and teleport back to your ship instantly. Could also add a bomb to disable to planets def for a short time while you are in orbit.

Wow talk about old relics...
I to remember the discussions and talks about your idea's Faustus. but it definatly is a while back.

Certianly would hope to see Palestar to ever get that far..
But i agree, preferebly whitout the required usage of cryogenic hybernation.

on a side note only game i know that uses something like that is 3000AD / Universal combat.

Ah yes, Darkspace:Assault.

Honestly, it isn't too hard to come up with a generic FPS on a low budget, and if the source code where released for some public help (Heavily watched over), it could be possibly done.
