The only thing that is consistently bothering me while I play is that it is so darned dark. I realize.... "DarkSpace", but turn up the intensity of the light from stars a good 30% or so. One of the things I liked most about the player run servers we had for a few months was how much brighter it was in there. We could really see what was going on. It is why we filmed DarkSpace Infinity in there.

Short story: I would like the lights turned up a bit in the next patch release, please.

But that leaves less light for effect of torpedo's and core weapon explosions.

+ given that the background image gives a lot more light than it would be without it.

But look at a sun and tell me if those are bright? since those should be at max lighting.

Just look at my Sig pic. You can see that station very clearly, even on the dark side. I can't see the ships in this release anywhere near that well. Friends of mine, seeing me play, ask why I am playing a game I can't see. All I appear to be doing is shooting at a bunch of wandering diamond icons and circles.

I am not trying to criticize the game or put it down. I am making an observation and suggesting a solution. Turn up the lights.

Lets say we do turn up the lights.
Turning up sun brightness, turning up weapons fire effect, including loads of nebula's and bloomed background images.

you still will only see Diamonds and Triangles as target indicators to what yer shooting at, given the distance and model sizes.
Ok we could up the sizes but we just oped the planet sizes so they gota up again, well, i think it would never end.

but how about this, resize weapons range..
Realy i recall that CL2K had 200gu range, CL500 120gu, Ruptor 180.
Cannons had decent range ~800 gu for railgun,
By getting people closer to each other so you can finally see those ship models.

In addition pressing CTRL + C on occasion does wonders.
+ keeps FPS up when your in those surrounded by missile situations, it really really helps.

That's a rediculous argument. The diamonds are simply drawn on the screen by the program. Only the rendered objects of the game (Ships and planets) are influenced by the brightness of the lighting sources. Increasing the light intensity from the stars would only increase the visibility of ships and planets and not influence nebulae or diamonds. As for making things bigger to make them more visible, that is neither here nor there in this thread. I cant see things because it is dark, not because they are small.

he's talking about increasing the ambient light on ship models (likely planets, missiles, other physical objects) so that they visually stand out more against the background

Adjustable ambient lighting would be nice, though I enjoy the ability of an ICC Missile Dread to sit quiet and indistinct, for its size, at negative signature until ready to fire. You can actually get the thing so quiet that it can fire a planetary siege missile, completely undetected. You have to crawl up to the planet very, very slowly though.

We had to turn down the lights to save on the electric bill until we get more subscribers...

I have to say, I like the idea of higher ambient light, but only slightly higher. The ships should be visible if you look for them, but hard to detect visually if you're not looking somewhat carefully. The ICC Missile Dread is an excellent example - it should be able to "blend in", if you will, with the background.

Personally, I think that other missile-platform-type ships would do well to also be able to "blend in" - such as the UGTO Missile Cruiser. Yes, I AM talking about a slight reskin, but that would obviously be mere aesthetics. Just make it darker. That's just my opinion, though.
