So, I think I broke my toe yesterday. Its turned a nice shade of purple and black this morning, and while the pain is there, its nothing that keeps me from walking.

Anywho, I ask: anyone here ever broken a toe? Is it worth going to a doctor? Ive heard/read/had related to me that there isnt a whole lot done with broken toes, other than just letting them heal. I dont need the pain meds that much, and would rather not pay to hear something I already know.

Suggestions? Am I just being incredibly short-sighted?

Unless it is deformed and could need setting, there is probably no need for a doctor.

I've broken several toes, and it really depends on where. If it's inbetween the two nuckles, it's best to go to a doctor or it'll get foobar. But if it's below the last nuckle on your toe, you can generally wrap it up and it'll be fine.

Trust me, I'm a Geologist.

i to was thinking that.....

[on-topic]
Never broke a toe but like Crim says all depends on where it could be broken.
Its worth checking in with a doctor for that.
Because it might heal, but might heal the bone incorrectly creating a problem later on.

You don't want to end up with a early hip replacement because your foot displaced itself wrong...
(A friends girlfriends aunt had a hip replacement because at the other leg she had a fractured knee cap, creating extra pressure on the other legg..)

Doctors. there costly, sometimes scarry but above all, suppositly knownaged about the human body....

I would go get stabbed, that way when you DO wind up in the hospital, they'll take you in quickly, thereby negating the time part in this equation.

Seriously though, which toe, and where is it broken?

Well, Most I could recommend is to stay off it as much as possible(use it as an excuse to make others take out the garbage, ect). And Make sure the bone is set right, So it can heal correctly and you wont have walking pains in 5 years.

well ive broken my toe a few times

A.) if its not set correctly ur going to have alot of pain even after its healed which would mean the doctor rebreaking it and seting it correctly-happened to me btw

B.) stay off it as much as you can keep it up ice it which will get the swelling down

other then that broken toes arent that big a deal the doc will prolly just tell u what i did ive heard them say it to much - football injuries not fun sometimes

correct, nothing can be done about a broken toe, unless its broken in such a way that requires it to be bolted back together again...this sux, and i would never have it done

having said that the reason they xray anyway, is to make sure that its a clean break, with no lil chips and such that can work thier way into your brood stream, and cause circulatory problem IE stroke, heart attack etc.

u can just get it xrayed for a fee, and take the negatives yourself after paying

(cost about 120.00 bucks i have done this sans the posting online to check on my own bone breaks)

and post them online if u r worred, i am sure we will all give our opinions for free

PS u broke a bone on your FOOT, u are going to have pain on your FOOT for the rest of your life no matter what u do, u get used to it...on bright side, u can tell when the weather is going to change
