Just a thought:
Reset systems in MV back to their factions for 1 week and remove home systems, rogens and Procyon. Just so everyone goes into Sag to fight it out without AI for 1 week to see how it goes.

DarkSpace also needs more suggestions on what to change.
So here's mine:
Shortform games:
For non-dread action. Basically scenarios but with a reduced resource requirement for ships so you dont spend most of the game building just to get a cruiser. Rank limited so no dreads and maybe reduced prestige earnings as it would be a 'safer' server for new players to cut their teeth in.
Mid-length games:
Scenario again maybe with a longer time limit. Normal prestige earning and dreads alllowed but not stations. Longer time limits allowing for shift in flow of battle and flag planets keeping the combat focused.
The Metaverse:
Leave that alone, its scary. There be monsters, don't go there.
But seriously, once a player can comfortably play in the mid-length scenarios they'll have enough experience to not get killed in MV all the time.
Thats what kept happening to me and it's quite demoralising when you don't have a clue what you are doing.
To sum up:
Gentler more enjoyable introduction to the game=more players staying and subbing=more effort being put into DS=a better game for all
At least thats what I hope would happen
