I've heard several versions of that one (including this one), Cash's is probably my favourite. The people they managed to get together for the video's certainly impressive.

I tried to find who originally wrote the song with no luck. Cash is my favorite version/favorite artist so I ran with him. I listened to the one you linked not sure how I feel about it.

Like with a lot of folk songs (Moby sampled a lot for the album Play, which includes Run On/God's Gonna Cut You Down), its original owner is probably lost to myth....and legend.
