actually fellow players sometimes sending a distress call will alert other players to check your position ....
seeing 1 distress call may not be enough since players are chatting in game for many reasons but seeing 5 or 6 distress calls or more if its an emergency will attract attention to check it out ......
either way i dont see a problem with spamming distress calls if in the end that means more prez

Problem I see with spamming is that it forces other text that might be important to scroll up out of view. Other players are also requesting for help, I might get commands to build something, Someone is planning a planet invasion, etc. F4 does have a chat history, but a small one, & you'll have to spend game time to scroll around.

If someone has the time spam, they can hit [Enter]sos[Enter] just the same.

Can player distresses be a different color then planet/AI distress? I have just tuned out all the dark yellow text on my screen because so much of it is spam, I wouldn't see a player distress unless they sent it 2 or 3 times.

+1

Any particular preference as to the colour of distresses?

AI grey
planets yellow
players orange

I wouldn't do planets yellow, its still an important distress, and yellow doesnt stand out. You could make both AI and planets grey, or have a different color.

players tend to send distresses so many times cause they want to attract some ai attention most of he time. if the ai responded better to distresses then maybe this wouldnt be such a problem. But i agree that the number of distresses that can be made per 30 seconds or so should be limited. Its not fun to see "spacegatekid08 is being attacked" listed 36 times all the way down ur screen

FYI... the AI code ignores any additional distress calls from the same object .... so doing it once has the same effect as doing it 20 times.

FYI a distress is a distress, regardles of whether it comes from a planet or player.

Perhaps blue would be a good colour?

i think comm colours in general could use a reworking.

i liked it a few patches ago when player chat was yellow, distresses were light yellow, you could yell to the server in red, and you had a short range broadcast in blue. id use the blue to give orders since it stood out.

having a couple different faction channels, one for general info and one for commands, would be nice. although it will probably get super-abused real quick, unless we can lock it to rank or a vote system of some kind? maybe have chat channels you can invite people to?

not that this settles distresses but still =P

i personally distress 3 times anyways so that ill get noticed. a single line of text tends to get ignored.

Building on previous comments;

Why not just let the users configure the chat colors, in a text .INI file?

Bonus request: Let users change chat font size also

On the idea of controlling AI, it would be good to make it so X rank could only send orders. Like VA or above thus making more of an incentive to sub for those who are not. Not only can those blue enhancements do something but now you can tell AI where to go and what to do. Just an idea.

AI on right, player related events middle and chat left .

this way of chat allign will sort the issue of 'NO multiple windows'

e.g. one for chat one for events and one for system msgs ...

Yea, I was actually suggesting a change, I think they should be made distinguishable between each type of distress, player distresses SHOULD stand out IMO.
