Okay every year the charity I work for organises a 60's themed night to raise money. However last year I noticed a rather substantial drop in numbers. So i've been thinking maybe a change in time period would help. Now I know it pains some of you to have to look back and say "oh my god I can't believe I thought I looked that good" but i'm afraid I have to ask.

My knowledge of 70's and 80's music is brutal so i'm hoping you guys can give off some of your favourite tracks back in the day. i.e. Beatles, Bowie, Duran Duran, Tears For Fears, AC/DC, Deep Purple and Depeche mode etc....

P.S. we want to avoid hiring DJ as this would cost money which we need in the current economic climate.

Thanks Folks

Pakhos really nailed most of it. Here's some of the things from my library marked from those periods.

Well, there's Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die", with Wings. Though I prefer the orchestral version by the Cincinnati Pops.

The Sweet - Ballroom Blitz
Rocky Horror Picture Show- The Time Warp
A Flock of Seagulls - I Ran

It's not the 80's without "Bastian's Happy Flight" by Klaus Doldinger and Giorgia Moroder.

Ray Parker, Jr. - Ghostbusters
Enya - Boadicea
John Carpenter and Alan Howarth - Big Trouble in Little China [End Credits - Album Version]
Tone-Loc - Funky Cold Medina

Good list by Pakhos.

49. DEPECHE MODE - ENJOY THE SILENCE - Feb 1990

Being a DM fan I thought I have alittle nick pick but being so close after 1989 not many people will notice.
Could replace Enjoy the silence with a good Depeche Mode 80s song like Everything Counts or People are People or even Master and servant.

You want 80s? Aside from what Pakhos listed, you can probably google 'Hair bands' and get the entire decade.

Yeah. Nice.

Those hair bands did have some nice music.
Bon Jovi, Ratt, Motley Crue, Van Halen, etc etc.

That list was copied from the internet... Tons of websites about how to DJ an 80's themed event.

Granted I was a DJ back in the 80's working for a local radio station. Not on the air, though I got on the air a lot since I was friends with the night DJ, she was smoking hot... But I digress... The radio station would hirer people like me to go and DJ events, partys, dances, etc. So you called up the Radio station to have a party D.J.'ed and they sent guys like me, not the on air people.

That said, there are two major hits from the 80's that were omitted from that list and several overly popular songs likewise missing.

Prince - 1999
(Actually anything from Prince in the 80's was big)
B-52's - Rock Lobster
UB40 - Red Wine
The Vapors - Turning Japanese
Alphaville - Big in Japan
Expose - Come Go With Me
Expose - Let Me Be the One
Expose - Point of No Return
Michael Jackson - Beat It
Michael Jackson - Billy Jean
Men without Hats - Saftey Dance
Def Leapord - Pour Some Sugar On Me
Guns N' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle
Cameo - Word Up
Depeche Mode - People are People
Depeche Mode - Master and Servant
Beastie Boys - Brass Monkey
Beastie Boys - Paul Revere
CCCP - American Soviets
Sir Mix A Lot - Baby got Back
Sir Mix A Lot - My Posse's on Broadway

(The best remix I had of Posse on Broadway was the "Godzilla" remix that put the Godzilla roar and scream in the song. Cant find it anymore)
There was a War Games remix of CCCP that was interesting but people prefered the straight instrumental at parties.

I also had several different ROBOCOP rap songs by various people, it was big back in the 80's. But dont remember who made any of them.

There is a party remix of the Expose' Point of No Return that went over really well in Dance clubs.

There was a resurgence in the late 80's and some songs came back in style:
The Eagles - Hotel California

Also be careful when looking for "Forever Young" by Alphaville, they were the 3rd band to re-release that song, the original was from like 1970 and was Disco.

This is just off the top of my head... Its late and I need to get some shut eye...

These were "normal" songs that everyone loved and requested when i was DJ'ing.
