Why is it with darkspace I can download server info of upwards of 320+ kb/s? When I regularly download stuff from the internet I get an average of 150+ kb/s but never more then 200+ kb/s.

I get 400+ Kb/s from the UK.

Me thinks your ISP is throttling you.

OK, here is the highly technical reason you see faster download speeds...

Basically, I calculate the speed based on the amount of "uncompressed data" received by your client per second. However, I compress all data that is sent, so the amount of actual compressed data is limited by your bandwidth.

I see. That makes a lot of sense.

But the second part I don't quite understand. Seeing how I have adsl. I won't have to decompress? Or is it because the data is compress so it can handle more data at a time?

one more thing: could it be because your signals (bandwidth?) are much stronger. I.E. You are much closer to me?

Nothing to do with signals getting stronger.

Besides DL/UL caps or throttling, it also depends on the routing. If your ISP routes it thru many nodes or hops, and/or thru slower networks then you end up with lower download speeds.

Dirty trick Faustus, but i love it.

Example we have a 320kb file when compressed it is 200kb. This compressed file is send across the internet and when it reaches your client it will be decompressed and installed.
While across the internet only 200kb has been tranfered the client reports it has downloaded 320kb.

Side note, i get around ~180kb/s for a DarkSpace update and ~220kb/s for Beta.

Alright, that makes a lot more sense. Thank you for clearing that up.
