I realize this has been said and done before, and even though we have a freaking war going on with the 'luth right now... Why not right?

Recently, we've seen surges of players on any given faction. Some are new, having little idea what the hell they're doing. Some are old, coming from versions past thus out of touch of what works and what doesn't.

I was thinking maybe we could get a top player or two from each faction to hold a little event where we gather the nubs and give them a basic run though of the game. The beginning isn't so hard, you don't have many ships to work with and thus not a lot to learn. As you go up the ranks suddenly you have a lot more options on combat tactics, ways to bomb, ways to build on planets... God knows I myself as an ICC player need help with hunting 'luth and need some tips against UGTO. Some could use pointers on bombing, how to not get yer infantry shot down by a planet to cap it, to NOT drain the planet yer trying to cap for inf so you can go unload on that sneaky bug etc. all the little things. Probably get some views on enhancement combinations for particular ships as well.

Might be nice to touch up on the virtues of sensor scouts and such as well :D Beacons etc...

(And yes I've seen someone take the inf off a planet we just bombed so they could try capping a ship instead. It didn't work. Sad... and funny.)

I actually think this is a Great idea, gives New Players a chance to get a feel for the game and get better understanding of how to stay alive and complete certain things like Mines, Emergency Jumps, Proper Navigation, Flight, Ship-to-Ship Combat, Power Management, etc....

Some new players do not know about the Energy system, and that Full Speed+ Firing All Weapons = Less Energy and Weapons dont recharge.

Just like some do not fully understand the Interdictor's and Faction Specialties, Ive been nice enough to turn of the Dico Field on my Cruiser when i see a very new player. just so it doesnt discourage them from playing more, but if they learn about the Basics of DS then they might understand the game more and put in some more time on the servers.

The game needs a tutorial again. I've checked in Ursa Minor a few times and there's people there who have no clue what they're doing.

When I try to help them, most remark they wish there was a tutorial to teach them that sort of thing.

Anyone interested in learning scouting skills, I will give 2 classes for you. Ill work out the details, but Ill do one early and one late, so I can cover time zones. I have this weekend open, but I need to check a few things. Ill post a day and time when I will do it.

I strongly suggest human veterans be there.

If ya'll have specific requests, Im sure I can teach you or I can get somebody more competent than myself to.

For ICC

Recon Scout, i think with 5 Slots, you click on one eccm, turn it off asec later look about, move on to the next, and so on. They reload real fast but your real vulnerable.

Sensor Frig, Also has five and only a tiny bit less weak.

Escort Dessie, i think it has 2 slots for eccm and a beacon too, plus lasers are real nice on Kluth.

Border Cruiser, i think it's got 3 ECCM slots, and it's like a bigger version of the escort dessie with just as many lasers.

Oh Pings work within 1500, and you gotta manually aim at the ships, usually lets you get 2 volleys in.

dont have to manually aim...just hit e...unless you have hotkeyed something to it.

e then spacebar....e then spacebar

on my recon scout i have the 5 eccm set uo on main keys on 1-5..so i just have to tap 2 keys and fire when they show.

I like the idea but I have a suggestion for the future after missions get added to the game.

Would it be possible to change Ursa Minor to a scenarion server that has rotating maps that cover all of the info that new players need to know, everything from basic ship movement to planet building and combat techinques? Each scenario covers a differnt topic and it is set on like an hour loop so that way there is enough time to cover something but not too long so that they get bored waiting for the next lession. Maybe make it like they are joining (insert faction name here) Armed Forces and are getting the pilot training.

I'm not sure how the coding would need to be worked but if the Dev team isnt interested in it or thinks it would be too difficult then I understand just adding my ideas to the pot.

Ill tell u what! from a noob point of veiw.. i play Allegiance! found at www.freeallegiance.org. im a excellent fighter pilot and im no noob to any space game!

but ill tell you what the problem is with this game.. NOTHING!! its the menu!! theres no training simulaters. and for the love of god i can not find HOW TO PLAY!!

yes i know the controles and stuff..but wtf!! personaly from a noob point of veiw ADMIN!! need to re asses the forams! u guys obviously know your way around it..but man. even after looking at loads of stuff. i have NO IDEA!!!

Im not trying to crittisise your game in anyway. to be honest after finding it on the net. i kinda like it. but the whole set up for new ppl needs to be thought out AGAIN!!

Unless this is for ppl who have played it for years and new ppl arnt allowed!!

if thats not the case, then getting Vets from different squads isnt the answer. its the ppl who run the game. u need to realy think about why new ppl come and go and think this game is for lack of a better word CRAP!! the graphics are excellent for the game play the idea behind the game is awsome! but its 100% NONE!! noob friendly!

doesn't matter if you dont like what iv said. its a fact! all you guys who play this day in day out. u know what to do.. but dam man.. no wonder new ppl come and go.. UNDERSTANDING HOW TO PLAY THIS GAME IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE FOR A NEW PLAYER!!

Yeah the forams LOOKS good!! sure.. but its Jibberrish to any new player/

sorry if i have offended anybody.. but after 5 years of playing on line multiplayer games (space games) this is the NO:1 hardest! not to learn!! but to understand in anyways..

There are several issues at play there.

We had a tutorial once, but it was outdated and never replaced.

DS runs on volunteer dev juice, something that is rarer than Unobtainium.

The many many changes DS goes through in a short time can make some parts of a tutorial obsolete very quickly.

Most of the time, players can answer any question that you need answered. We also have a greenshirt (moderator) present most of the time, who can answer almost anything that you may ask.

This doesnt excuse any delinquency for the lack of a tutorial. It is merely an attempt to explain.
