I've never experienced people listening to me as much as I'd like to - but whenever I get on and there's no organised action on ICC I usually tend to pull the fleet together. Or I like thinking so.

My ego almost matches Jack's, after all.

Like an hour or so ago I was piloting under UGTO in the scenario server. So while I was flying arround I got jumped by some luth dreads. I sent out a call to everyone, even wrote that I need help. Then a funny thing happened, more than 40 seconds pased and no one came to my aid. Not to mentioned the luth were outnumbered and outgunned. So after I jumped out, the others started saying "hey, we should jump those luth".
Conclusion? People who are not used to listening will never listen to anyone thus being useless in a fight.
Solution? Fly only with people who can count on.

Actually, our jump drives were charging because we were about to jump Sag Hottha and had gotten into position. Remember? ;o

I know that I can't speak for the ICC, but I personally hate the process of bombing and capturing planets. I hated cloud bombing as well, but perhaps not quite as much as the current system (of tranny rushing or nuking the power).

When fleetops go down, I will gladly provide support, but if the plan involves me getting a bomber or a tranny, chances are good that I will find something interesting to watch on tv.

And yet, when SOMEBODY is bombing, who then is running escort duty? Do you just accept that the enemy will let the bomber have the planet with no resistance?

If you dont want to bomb, then ride shotgun in a cruiser or dread and escort the bombers. There shouldnt be single bomber and sup teams seen in the game. They should be ineffectual, because the enemy is responding to an attck. That would mean that you will be needed in any planet capturing, because it would require all of the ships that make up an invasion fleet from a scout to a supply or station.

I'm all in when supporting fleet ops (including bombers), I just can't stand doing the bombing. The EAD is a great PD boat

on several occasions I have been able to get a fleet organized and on the move. When that happened....well the sag server went green for a while and Procyon. Its amazing what will happen when people start following X leader or leaders. FTL will be back to ICC as well when the cool down ends, we have had much fun on Kluth wiping out UGTO.

A little organization goes a long way, a few times ICC had been outnumbered 4:1 having saw a lot of UGTO on (there were just 3 of us ICC on). We built platforms and reworked planets to better cover one another expecting an attack.....it never came. Reason is, UGTO didn't understand that they would crush us if they all attacked at the same time.

Fleets need to act like fleets and I am in the process of getting mine a little more organized. From what I have noticed FS and FTL work well together we listen to one another (again from what I have noticed) and TR as well when there on.

Which is why we take care of Ep1 and TK Duo. if peeps want in on the vent server, and in on our actions they can simply join us.

And its been proven that it works too! At times I would start giving out suggestions/orders for fleet movements and everything worked out perfectly. Other times Meko would take the reigns and the same result.

We even relayed orders through regular chat in game and everything worked out.

Vent makes things a LOT easier, and when someone does take up the reigns and give out orders for fleet actions things work out a lot more.

One fleet isnt needed to make ICC great, the whole faction as a whole working together will. So as Meko stated, if you want in on allied fleet engagements and wants to work as a team with us, PLEASE get with Meko and grab the vent server info. Makes planning attacks a lot simpler, and it makes combat on the go easier as well.

From my works perspective.

We all hate typing and Typing lacks personality.
You might disagree but just imagine the following

F.Adm. Kirk: "need help!"

^ what does the tell us? nothing besides that he might need or is in need of help..
On vent if some one says the "holy Spacebar, i need some help guys!" sentence and you will know he is in need of some immediate help.
Vent gives a extra level of communication, and indeed it can be used to ordinate the attack. Heck even you just use it to calls the designated target, its darn helpful. and faster then typing it out..

p.s. it need some discipline or organization in large numbers. it sucks when 5 guys all want to scream at once..

as one of said returning vets so far ive been sampling all sides and from what ive seen each faction pull togther and do somthing but i will agree icc seems the most disorgized group

they will have 1-2 people doing diffrent thing all over the place where as the other too seem to automaticaly group up with out having to say anything and that seems more of a problem then anything else

More often then not, someone will suggest something pretty good. The Rest of the team are too far back in their chairs mashing spacebar to see the Fraction chat and ignore it.

Also Nubs are joining the game and arn't being taught anything.
Too often do i see the site of Someone jumping behind a team mate and mashing a few alphas into there allies, Before realising maybe that's not such a good idea.

Training, Hopefully i can get something up in OaC to teach them about fleet tactics, general knowledge on the game.
Bring back the Academies.

Using a TS or Vent server is great to help people out, I have been a little lazy and haven't set up our TS server yet but I will.

The other idea would be to add VoIP to the game. I know this has been suggested before but heres a few more things that might make it more feesable.

1. Use a low bit rate. It doesn't need to be fancy or anything just needs to carry a voice even a crappy one is better then none.

2. Make it an option. Just allow people to check mark in there profile to enable voice. Then, when loading the game, it will move them to the voice server. The server will be just 1 open faction chat. When people talk a speaker can show up next to there name so people know whos talking.

3. Make it PTT only! This is a must as too many people dont know how to enable PTT when Vox is default. This will prevent mics from constantly transmitting when they pick up the most distant of sounds (some are just wayyyy too sensitive).

4. Allow separate channels. This one could come later but you could allow fleets to be in one channel and the fleet admin thats on at the time will be able to talk to the faction as well as the fleet (two different PTT buttons much like how Battlefield 2 did with squad leaders). If no Fleet Admin is on it will choose the highest ranked player on and if a tie by most pres.

Doing these and more would do wonders for the game play and increase coordination between fleets and players. Battles would certainly be more organised.

VoIP would be nice, but it might be a bear to code and to run on the available bandwidth, even on a low bitrate. Plus, the voice chat always degenerates to mindless drivel after the first few minutes of play.

Vent would probably already work well enough.

I was meaning something that already the game dose automatically, ya we all could use a Teamspeak, ventrillo, or mowhawk server. I was thinking more along the lines of the game supporting something like that.

As fast said, when the fleet's worked as a fleet instead of individuals. We managed to wipe out almost anything as long as we were prepared, We followed the orders and flew what ships were required. Not Station overloading, but a few Stations for Support, Supply Ships for Resupply and Repairs, and Dreads for Main Assualts, and mostly Carriers for Quick Hit-&-Run attacks that were successful when coordinated and when everyone followed orders.

ICC does need leadership, a strong Leadership would benefit ICC as a whole. Its true their are players out there who do have the mentality that they are better because of their rank or just because thats what they believe. They may not listen or even care about the idea.

But its something that should be taken into consideration
