How about buying a new computer this time round?
Old ones don't last....

it depends, on the quality of the computer

some cheap computers last only, as long as the warranty lasts.

my old computer (still running) is 6 years old

Depending on how its put together.
Depending how hard you harass the computer.
Depending on how you define "has died" (some people buy a new comp just because the OS is giving them more problems)

In my personal experience i can say we have had computers lasting at least 1 hour to 12 years without dusting.

The cash guys here say a desktop computer must last 3 to 4 years before its economically warranted to replace it.
1U servers at least 12 months
thin clients 2 years
keyboards 2 years
mouse 1 year
TFT monitor 2 years
CRT 6 years (gogo CRT's!)
Co-worker at least 6 months.

Personal i keep Servers for as long as they function.
But my primary workstation usually lasts around a year.
But it doesn't end there i keep them around up to 8 years or less, before considering dumping it or stripping it.
Not that i will use it all those 8 years. i convert them in to usefull things. music rigg, a random server, system-sealing shoebox, spare workstation. etc.

I have CRT that I've had for 8yrs old now going on 9 (it's older then that) and still going strong (gonna start calling it the energizer CRT ) and computer that's atleast 6, had it for 3 and the previous one I got at the sametime as the CRT, it has a agp connector mobo and has a nvidia 5200 g card in it. i run a computer till I start having alot of problems with it, of which this comp is getting ready to come up to bat.

Computers do require maintenance.. if you live in a very dusty house especially, you need to crack it open and blow the dust out every 3-6 months.

Failure to do this, will lead to overheating and eventual hardware failure.

thats like asking how long your car will last.....
i mean i know my car will die exactly in 2 years and 3 months exactly....

in other words nobody can answer that question, but old hardware is going to die usually faster than new hardware in general
