I am worried about it for two reasons. one, a single salvo from a dread will hull this ship, and do signifigant damage. two, its underarmed and more or less useless.
As to the new carrier cruiser, it has absolutly no resembalance, the only thing which may look similer is that it has side mounter hanger bays, which the galactica (the one it more closely resembles) also has.
Icc does not fly nor need a hit and run ship, that is not how they fight nor fly. if you want hit and run, play k'luth. icc are allready the most manuverable faction in the game, they dont need high speed cruisers which die if something looks at them funny (which is going to be what happens) that cruiser is only going to be able to move at most 30gu/s which yes is fast, but cruisers are still large targets and easily hit compared to scouts which the speed matches
to the people who say those who are complaining about its lack of defense dont know how to fly, i have been flying icc for 5 years, i know how to fly them. This ship will die so fast in a fight, it will not matter if it moves 30 or 60. it has no defense other then a single full arc aux and active.
The ship model is indeed nice, the loadout needs a retooling to a huge degree. a dessy will do more damage and last longer with the current loadout.

Rather than make it a new ICC Ship, it would be an excellent replacement model for the Border cruiser.

Personally, I'm more worried about the fact that the ship has too much stuff on it according to my notes, has a ludicrous amount of energy generation for the devices it has, and will probably behave like a scout, making it impossible to hit it with a single salvo from a dread.

I think we should focus on the graphical model, rather then the ships devices.

If anyone has any suggestions for an setup, I would greatly appreciate it since you guys know more than me about this stuff. [ This Message was edited by: Alanstar on 2010-06-07 18:26 ]

First draft for a high speed cruiser variant. keeping to what you want
-----------------------------------
devices
4x IE engine
1x tachion drive
2x composite armor (1x full, 1x fore)
4x reactive shields (standard setup)
2x aux fusion reactor (1x left, 1x right)
Armament
2x fighter
3x heavy gauss (fore)
4x anti-capital missile (fore) (when they are released, the high damage slow turn missile)
4x chemical laser (1x right fore, 1x left fore, 1x full, 1x fore)
That may be overarmed for a cruiser, i didnt do the math with the point alotment. (that and i am unsure of just how many a cruiser has)
It hits hard and still moves faster then most cruisers. scouts and frigates outrun it however it is the fastest cruiser in exsistance (ds) with the reactors it can run at full speed without draining reserves. something most cruisers cant do. the four heavy missiles ensure it has a good punch and the two fighters give it versitility, along with lasting damage. the thrre heavy gauss give it some damage but the real damage comes from the missiles.

Cruiser load-out: New cruiser, Rank: Vice Admiral, Badges: Silver Support, Silver Combat, Bronze Transport
3 IE drives
Tachyon Drive
Pulse Wave
Normal cruiser armor and shields (HC)
2 Aux gens
6 Fighters (3 each bay)
2 Heavy Cannons (F/L F/R)
3 Normal Cannons (F/L F/R F/L/R
4 beams (F/R, F/L, R/L, R/R)
Cruiser Load-out: Rank: 2nd Rear Admiral, Badges: Bronze Transport, Bronze Support
3 IE Drives
Tachyon Drive
Pulse Wave
Cruiser armor/shields (HC)
2 Aux Gens
2 Fighters
3 Heavy Cannons (F/L/R, F/R, F/L)
5 Normal Cannons (F/L/R, F/R, F/L, R/L, R/R)
4 Beams (F/R, F/L, R/L, R/R)
Dreadnought Load-out (I think it looks something that could replace the Command Carrier)
4 IE Drives
Hyper Mass Accelerator
Pulse Wave
Normal Dread armor and shields (Combat Dread)
2 Aux Gens
2 Mining Beams
2 Build Drones
2 Sensor Slots (1 Scanner 1 ECCM)
8 Fighters (4 left pod 4 right pod)
3 Heavy Cannons (F/L, F/R, F/L/R (Front of ship top))
5 Normal Cannons (F/L/R (Front of ship bottom), R/L (top of pod), R/R (top of pod), F/L, F/R). Alt: 3 normal cannons (F/L/R, R/L, R/R)
7 Beams (F/R, F/L, R/L, R/R, F/L/R (just in front of the bridge), R/L/R (back of bridge), Omni (on top of bridge))
Its hard to come up with a good cruiser load-out as ICC is saturated with Cruisers already. However this dose look like sommin that could replace the Command Carrier as I said before. Also its the setup that the CC should have with 1 more drone and more fighters but less combat firepower, guns are for just defense.
Cruiser load-out #1 is something to compete with the UGTO fighter carriers they have at VA.
Cruiser load-out #2 is a stab at mixing the heavy cruiser with some fighters.

Is it easier to use than Blender?
I find Blender a bit quirky.
It's free, can't complain... but just a lil quirky.

Just wondering, do we have any Battleships Variants in DS?
Usual Space Theme MMO's have this...
Fighter/Corvette/Frigate/Carrier/Cruiser/Battleship/Dreadnaught

No, no battleships, but we do have 2 different "types" of dreadnaughts, standard and super. Super dreadnaughts are the assault/command variants and require more technology and resources to field. (I think they are also slightly larger according to the dev. manual but AFAIK they use the same model as the regular dreads).
Also the argument as to whether a dreadnaught is larger than a battleship or vice versa has been argued to death in some other forum topic with no conclusion- so lets try not to go there. (personally though I like the Star Trek lore progression- Frigate->destroyer->cruiser->battlecruiser->dreadnaught->battleship->starbase)
BTW, your file is set to private- we can't download it.

Fix that, it is now set for public if you want to download the file.
