Last night I was in the usual battles between UGTO and ICC.

I took a picket destroyer to intercept missiles and take them down with PD, but to my surprise I could see AR missiles being launched from a distance as they flew towards me, I lost radar lock on them and could only watch as the flew passed me to impact on the station I was trying to defend.

Signature level was 20+ and I had a scanner running...

Did some thing change? I recall a few day's back I had little to no trouble with PD taking down any kind of missiles, with the exception of K'luth's missiles.

They go stealth before they hit.

Anti-radar missiles in modern day military lingo are weapons that use a target's radar as a homing beacon.

You may have +20 signature but that might be because of your own devices, other people or nouns might have different signatures.
If people are running ecm you might have +20 but they might have +2

About the missiles.
yes AR missiles are changed a bit.
For some of the stat changes, please look at the DS-DB 4.2.5 missiles (link) at the difference between the Old and New.

Curiously DS has both AR and anti-radar missiles. The anti-radar missiles replace sparrows and can't even hit a cruiser at 500gu that's not moving. AR missiles which are also anti radar but called AR are much better.

This seems to be a general bit of weirdness. Missiles fired from a distance can be easily visible, and then will become undetectable at some point before they hit. I can only presume that they're becoming visible due to ECCM or similar at their launch point, which they then cease being affected by before they hit their target.

Still, it's a bit odd.

i think it has to do with computer quality,
my old netbook always had missles disappear 400 from me, thus i could never pd and died
this improved laptop never has disappearing missles, unless guy with ecm is near me

It's the same with IT and Ion Tracker, the way it was explained to me is ICC/UGTO missiles don't level like Kluth missiles because of the way the different missile tiers are set up, so missiles that are common to all tiers like AR/IT need a different entry for each tier.

They also have different ingame descriptions and perform wildly different. Anti-radar (not AR) are mostly worthless due to not being able to hit a damned thing.

Isn’t that what the scanner is for? Detecting sneaky missiles?

If the scanner isn’t used for that, than what`s point of having the scanner on a destroyer picket? What else can the scanner be used for? I don’t recall needing any special sensor equipment to detect and track missiles.

I’ve always believe that the scanner aided in detecting small things like missiles and cargo pods.

I don’t know how much ECCM was being broadcasted exactly, but I don’t recall a destroyer having a very high signature of its own. So at least or 9 points of ECCM was being broadcasted. If AR missiles are equipped with ECM of their own, then a good amount of ECCM is needed reveal them.

Computer quality? Game settings?
I’ve not experience any client lag (a PC who could not cut it) only network/server lag during the epic battles where missiles/fighters where spammed like crazy.

I don’t believe my machine has any problems with showing missiles or the target boxes, I’ve been in bigger battles and never experience the issue before until now
