What about Pirates being playable? Lol I've heard rumors about Pirates becoming available I don't know if that is true or not.

ATM I would suggest Shield generator CAN resist MI Death Beam.
I understand how ICC players feel when Longhead usually visit Tau Ceti. It's terrible afterwards.

i like the idea of an ai being OP for once...MI kill planets fast? good! keep things movin and changin. Just hope they will attack biggest factions hehe
also cappin em all may become to awesome...cant their ships get some inf on em and/or stronger ship interior defenses so that 30 infantry is needed to cap a node, and 15 infantry for a longhead? ATM i can cap longheads with only 5 infantry....
Only UGTO have proper ship defenses for that right now...Luth stations get capped with 1 veteran inf or more and icc stations with 4 veteran or more.
Boost MI more! let the nodes rule instead of being a farmtarget!

Whilst the true power of the MI is open to interpretation, I have always viewed them as a distant, but overwhelming power, similar to the Borg in size and dominance for referance. I don't play anymore, and doubt I will again due to computer problems, but I see the nodes of previous versions as farm targets, when in actual fact I deeply wanted them to be the most awe-inspiring and daunting target, powerful enough to rip an unwary fleet to shreds should it wander close enough. However, as I pointed out, they are open to interpretation.
With regards to the story arc, it's giving you combat and building pres at the bare minimum, and to me, I see it as a rather exiting prospect, since the only darkspace experience I can currently get is from fan fiction and storyline events such as this. From an in-character perspective, you would probably get similarly vague warnings of attacks as from which we are recieving from developers at the moment, and as such would be clueless about the future of the story-arc (or situation, from an IC viewpoint).
My two pennies.

Or you play Pirates to do, y'know, quick guerrilla strikes as they are designed presently.

Pirates don't need a DN, if you want to use Pirate ships then you need to adapt and figure out how to properly use their ships.

If MI becomes playable, all im doing is using the Cruiser... It pwns enough without the need of using a dread.

I believe MI has pushed KLuth out of Procyon. And there won't be any faction try to rule that system again.
