Hi,

Yesterday after update to v 1.542 I started the game with HDR turned off and all the beams, ship and projectiles trails looks wierd with tons of pixels when zoomed out. If I zoom in to the max they look like before. However every fight now makes my eyes bleeding to see incoming projectile from far distance. I`ve tryied to change settings in game and in ATI Tray Tools but nothing seems to change. Here`s the example screen:

This is 1024x768x32 resolution.

My spec:

AMD Semptron 2 Ghz
768 mb RAM DDR I
ATI Radeon 9550 (newest Omega Drivers installed)
Windows XP Pro SP II
Directx 9.0c

Any ideas what causing this weird looking trails? Beside everything looks good.

Regards,

K

You're on a pretty old system. I am not sure exactly the cause, but it is probably LOD being lowered as you zoom out. I don't see why it is an issue, as long as the game is playable for you.

Like I said, this makes very difficult to see incoming projectiles from medium to long distance. I see only mix of pixels of starts and projectiles. To be honest projectile/ship trails looks worse then those from an old X-Wing game from 90`s

As I mentioned before, this worked perfectly before the update so I guess it`s some issue with those files that I downloaded yesterday.

Anyway I checked LOD options in ATI Tray Tools (Catalyst AI turned on/off) and still without any effect.

P.S. Of course it`s an old spec but I could play games with more higher requirements with it like F.E.A.R. or Unreal Tournament 3 and I didn`t notice any graphic issues.

Ok, here`s another screen while I`m shooting to over 1000 gu distance:

This looks like I don`t have any of effects applied for projectiles and trails except only for those when max zoomed in. This problem also includes diamonds on the planets or shield/armor status around ships.

P.S. This is with max texture/graphics detail, resolution 1024x768x32, trails-effects-particles setting 100%, Alpha Fonts on, Specular on, Light Maps on, VSync off, HDR off, Windowed off.

its something of a known issue, in that it was in our bug tracker.

largely seems to be anti-aliasing related on older video cards (like yours), only recommendation is to turn off the new eye candy, and dont have your video drivers be trying to force/override an application's AA settings

FYI, this always happened. Drawing raw lines is always hard on computers, as when they rear off to the side, they start getting pixelised due to tthe way lines are drawn.

Bloom just blurs the area around the beams to make them look more solid.

This should also be in the graphics issues threads, locked.
