Pick up annoying teammate
Long jump out to the middle of no where
Eject teammate and or log off

It would be kind of neat if the ship explosion animation included a little escape pod shooting out of the flames, a nice little touch with no effect on game play. But I am sure such a thing is not worth anyone's time.

Lets face it

1) We can dream to have Pods, but its not gonna happen

2) It will be very fustrating

3) Enemy Tractoring your pod into there ship, then what?

4) An idea could be is: When the ship explodes, your crew members are sent out into space on there "Pods" (No more bigger than a PCM) flying off in different directions, you can tractor these in "Assimilate" them into your crew, hence giving you Infantry. OR you can just be heartless and shoot a escape pod that has no weapons to fire back at you.

or, they shoot off, and race to the nearest planet, allied or not. Make them the size and speed of repair drones, and maybe a cool engine trail. Would look cool in a little cloud.

effect on game play? none. Special effects only.

I think the idea has merrit........

you see all of you who think not, are failing to see this as a positive possible new feature....

instead of an enemy ship getting destroyed and within seconds jumping you with a new ship..... or
instead of having your pod floating in space I think perhaps we use an escape pod in order to not lose any prez when our ship get destroyed.....

example....
We SD we cant get away,
but we are about to be killed and with enough time we hit the escape pod key, and the timer starts 5,4,3,2,1..
our pod escapes the area at FTL speeds working its way to the nearest SY planet to orbit automatically.....
no JD just the initial push our main ship gave up to get away will propel us at the FTL speeds throught the vacuum of space. Thrusters will guide us and steer us home... its an auto pilot.

in combat we may lose 30 seconds getting into a new ship and back again

but at the same time remember this:

if you are the one who got killed you wont be able to exact your revenge on the player who killed you cause he is still out there with lots of damage.

where is the sportsmanship of getting a new ship right away and killing the weakened players who are still in the original fight you got killed from in the first place.

this way you may cool down a little after getting killed and decide not to sacrafice your new ship with that idea, cause the enemy may already be gone by the time you get to the SY planet...( 30sec trip to SY)

and if you are the player who did the killing you get to not worry about the player you just killed, getting right back into the fight with a brand new ship while yours is almost gone.....

Sounds like a feature that would add balance to the game, my way.

a little more base reality but not too much.... cause if this were more realistic your ship would be gone from garage and you would have to log back into the game in 2 min cause your dead!!!!!! lol

Also:
If you escape and your ship is still there when you respawn from the sy that ship will just be a sitting duck and unable to use by your faction... unless the enemy faction captures it, then its AI.

Well this is just my revision of the initial idea.... any thoughts?

I know this would be a lot of work for Devs so dont sweat it its just a revision of the original idea

the whole main reason was can we have escape pods that could move, but at a limited speed, not cant move and will have to be picked up by another player

Just so people don't get their hopes up (for some reason), this will most likely never be added to DarkSpace. It doesn't fit the model of the game well at all, and I'm sure other players will not like the idea that they have killed your ship, but not you, and hence get no kill.

The whole point of DarkSpace is that if they kill your ship, they have killed you. Adding escape pods will do nothing except add more time between you returning to a planet to get a ship, and if you die in that pod, you get another death added on.

It doesn't take a genius to see that this isn't going to be added to DarkSpace.
