Area-of-effect objects are a pain to "balance" because of the fact that it scales with the number of units in the area. A command dread with a 2% attack bonus effect would become progressively more cost-effective as more units entered the area.

I have no problem with this. A ship that requires other ships to be nearby to become more effective promotes teamwork and sticking together, although it also has issues in that those ships will be restricted to a specific area around the command ship.

However, we already have an area-of-effect ship. The interdictor. The more ships it interdicts, the more effective it becomes.
How do you balance it? Well, for one it's got a fairly high cost in terms of space and energy. Secondly, it becomes a massive target and is, itself, vulnerable to enemy interdictors.

So, one can extend this to command devices on command dreads. The "balance" is that it's a ship that needs to be on the field in order to provide a benefit, which means it can be killed by the enemy. In addition, the enemy can bring a command dread themselves in order to even the odds. Finally, a command dread probably won't be as heavily armed as a main combat ship, so that side will have slightly less firepower. Similar logic on that last one as factions needing scouts to find cloaked K'luth; a scout ship means one less warship.

Finally, it's a situational ship that requires the presence of allies, just like the interdictor. An interdictor can't really kill anything it traps. A command dread on its own won't have any use for a device that enhances its allies since there wouldn't be any allies, reducing it to a sub-par battleship.

but unlike what really happens, people QQ about cloak and rage quit when they die to a luth, then make a angry forum post about luth is op.

dont forget
being squishy, buffing friendly, and having some kind of special visual effect would make you a prime-target on the field

AOE on Command Ship shall make it's the centre of dread hugging.
I would love if it have a special gadget to paralize a ship in 5 seconds and recharge after 1 minute. But it would be OP.

well if this thread prove anything it does prove that the dev are actually thinking of ideas to make the game more teambased. I like the idea of them actually doing something to the command dread they havent been useful since 1.483 like alot of the ships in the game now.

This is something that would make me want to actually stick my nose into the server again, and it would give Command Ships (Dread and Station) a reason to be use more frequently again. Maybe push the Rank Req on it abit higher to make it more... wanted

Great Idea. Well Done.
Give it Two Weeks (TM).
