What would we do about guns of different sizes anyway? Just make two different pools for them? (heavy rails vs. normal for example)

i highly doubt people will PAY for extra ammo storage that may or may not do them any good when you can just as easily ask for a supply ship to stay near the fleet.

ammo refills faster then repairs when theirs a supply

True somewhat. But you may not always have a buddy trailing you in a suppy.

And those AI suppies can be as dumb as nails. They never come when you need them.

Plus... there's also that scenario where you're bombing deep in enemy territory and have no suppie support.

Whoa! Brilliant and original idea, Ent! I don't think I've ever heard that suggestion before... oh, except three times above you in the same thread.

Doing this would probably require a slight reduction in individual ammo counts, since it slightly reduces the balance behind different arcs (they're predominantly used to limit the number of simultaneous fires, of course, but ammo plays a small role as well). But I personally don't have an issue with it.

But as with most things, it may be Too Much Work (for too little gain)™.

Because, you know, ICC guns use up very little energy.

It would be pretty bad if ICC cannons used the same amount of energy as UGTO and Kluth cannons since ICC also has shields drawing power. Even still, Gauss are energy hogs, you run dry in a relatively short amount of time if you're using active shields and going much more than half speed while firing. Sure they let you fire from longer range but that advantage gets taken away quickly if someone decides to fly toward you, forcing you to increase speed to keep that distance and draining energy even faster.
