As another way of thinking or an idea:
I think making defence systems more effective as older ones also can make a difference in battles. You know planes thats fires really weak weapons only when you get closer more than 400gu(or closer) makes dence buildings nearly worthless.Ýt says attack bases are to intercept ships but all they do is making some firework show... But people will start to complain about deathstar thing so i think there should be a limit for defence buildings.
I know i'm still new to this game but as a player who've seen old MV i know how the proper defences can change the stragies and battles.
(sorry for bad english and mistakes if i made.)

no.. their limited range means bomb outside their range.
no ammount of damage buffs can help this.
planet defence shold span the entire indictor field. if not more.
this will make clusters usable again.
also after range is buffed, you can slowly tweak damage values so not to over do them.

My god what a long thread. I didn't read everyone's all the way through so I apologize if I copy someone's idea.
Since most of the action is only happening in 3/4 systems why not make that the entire MV? One star system for each faction and one in the middle. Then when one faction manages to capture all systems (or perhaps over a period of time such as 1 month for exampel) the map can change to a different set of four star systems. It would sort of be like an overgrown version of Scenario.
This way all of the action is concentrated and nobody will get bored playing the same way all the time.
Just a thought...
