My personal opinion:
1 - Kill engineers, is not honorable.
2 - Kill engineers, when they are alone, is not only not honorable, is cowardly.
However, bad teamwork, does not help.
Good management of a defense fight should be to protect support vessels (engineers, interdictors, supplies).
However, the custom is attack without considering the consequences for their fellow faction or fleet.
Few accept any strategy.
When repelling an attack all go to attack inmediatly to those who run.
Who are building the planets and prepare defenses ? the engineers.
In such cases usually left alone to engineers who are victims of birds of prey.

Yeah i think i came up with a good way that i'm going to go about it.
Home system: Leave it alone
Enemy system: Eat it up
