Currently looking for some inspiration for planet textures. I've already got a few, and some you might notice ingame. So give me some idea on what planets and planet types you'd like to see with new textures. I'm afraid I'm not the best at terran planets, but I can give them a try at some point and time.
Below is what I've got done, though they're not necessarily finished products. They will of course look different ingame due to Darkspace's game engine, they're just simple renders in 3DS.

You could always explore creating volcanic worlds, not necessarily totally volcanic, but something like Io that has multiple active volcanos on the otherwise barren surface.
Ocean worlds too could be doable, and they arent as hard to do as terran ones, just splotches of islands and micro continents here and there.
Planet textures are really sort of straight forward and besides the more subtle details you can get into doing you got pretty much all the bases covered.

After some thought, I do have one project for myself. Here's the rundown -
K'luth ships are organic, and their civilization is based on organic structures from what I understand. I'd like to come up with unique textures for the K'luth home planets where they have some kind of organic growth over the planet (Think Zerg from Starcraft, Tyranids from DoWII, and Vardrags from Nexus:TJI). Of course, this would assume that the K'luth have a sort of 'hatchery' for their ships, instead of a convential Shipyard. It'd be cool to see captured K'luth planets away from their home system to have a texture like this, but that'd be a whole different ballgame development wise then just making a texture.
Will take some time to come up with rough drafts for planets and all that, but I think it'd be an interesting addition to the game. Of course, if no one likes this idea, I won't waste my time on this. Hahah

Gief textures.
We support 2048x2048 textures now, which are specifically reserved for planets. In addition to that, we support the following maps should you want to submit a planet texture with the various maps:
Diffuse
Normal (Bump)
Light
