i gotta say i don't think gauss are gonna be usuable next patch. Running at speed with shields on, and rails is already pretty draining on a BC. I don't think gauss will be very useable for very long flying in combat. Gonna do more tests to confirm this, but smaller ships might have a hard time running gauss after the patch.

What's coming with the next patch? Devlog shows nothing that would mess with Gauss energy use.

"- All Armor and Shield gadgets have had their level modifiers locked to 6. This means all ships now have the armor or shield hp of a dreadnought. Everything else remains unaffected."
dread level shields have dread level shield energy drain, and gauss guns already take lots of energy (in comparison to rails), so gauss will be less useable on small ships in next patch.
in case anyone is wondering, tweaks to this change are being discussed to get more positive results

Yeah, I remember when that was added into beta quite a while ago, but last I heard it was going to be reworked because of the higher energy drain for shields and higher weight for armor, otherwise smaller ICC ships (especially Scouts/Frigates) would be nearly unusable because the higher level shields would drain energy way too fast to keep up with in combat, along with a small maneuverability hit due to armor weight, and smaller UGTO/Kluth ships would be equally unusable because they take a big maneuverability hit. 5 less turn rate may not sound like much, but when you're flying a Scout or Frigate and rely on dodging to not die it's huge.
But anyway, as far as I remember one idea was to add armor/shield HP on an individual basis to avoid those issues. Probably a bit more work but that would be the ideal solution. [ This Message was edited by: Talien on 2011-11-10 12:49 ]
