Right now chitin is as strong as about 50% of your hull.
After observing it's use, regenerative armor seems to be the far better choice for everything but supply ships.
For supply ships it works, because they can repair themselves, and it covers up that very vulnerable unarmored aft.
However, seeing it used on a dread, it added a measly 3 rings of armor.
3 rings would be all good and fine except that it's shared across ALL arcs.
Something like a 100% increase would seem more fair.
Consider that once you get in a tangle with chitin armor, you'll need to retreat from battle and get supplied. It's a one time deal.
Regenerative ships can cloak and shrug off most blind firing nitpicks that would absolutely murder a ship configured with chitin.

I understand what your saying but the idea of chitin is that it adds more Armour to your ship at the cost of not being able t repair your hull its main use is to sit and defend a planet or hit and run in a siphon aka. siphon uncloaks empties its energy banks then jumps away in this case chitin is used to take that bit of damage before you start to be hulled.
its all about the tactics ahr is best used when hers 3-4 of you as you can kill 1 target before anyone starts to be hurt to badly then u cloak and repair before repeating it on another target

chitin is a kind of buffed-up ablative armor, in the sense that it also has 50% resistance to projectile damage, but can regenerate on it's own.
compared to AHR, chitinous armor provides more defense against icc small ships. a Combat Dread, for example, takes about 5-10 seconds to alpha-strike through the 1 organic armor on the rear of, say, a Mandible. but if the Mandible has chitinous armor, it can take as long as 15 seconds to start receiving hull damage.
15 seconds is enough time for the mandible to do a 180-degree spin, recharge 30% of it's jump-drive and teach the CDread a lesson in pain. just saying...
so, chitinous armor is best for increasing the one-time endurance against gunships. for super-trollsy Krills (i miss them), chitinous armor can absorb damage from multiple core weapons at range, thereby increasing damage dealt and reducing chance to get hull damage.
when there is no supply base, you dont need ammo and you have to stay alone in enemy territory, chitin can be your best friend.
chitin for short and extra-long endurance, ahr for regeneration. it will be some time until chitinous armor becomes popular though ....
