i suggested anti-capital ships ages ago
small ships (scouts / frigs) with a slow reloading, heavy damaging, close-range missile
they must be fired within beam-range and move rather slow
they can be shot down with pd, but if one missile make it through, the dread should have more than a dent

i think changing dmg capabilities would force a mass dessie spam again...could be fun
but on the other hand an easier solution would be a bonus system. What if ur faction has 3 stations and a cruiser? your prestige gain would remain normal if you pick a cruiser or dreadnought, prestige gain is less with a station, and prestige gain would be more then regular in a dessie or under. using a comparison counter with a reference value can do this. like 5 ships total with 2 stats is 2/5 x100% = 40%. station ref value is 15%, so the stations all get less prestige gain.
of course the bonus can get expanded with faster reps or something. But its the first concept that matters:
give ppl a small bonus for picking the small ships at times there are lotsa big ships.
