Right now we only have two options for planet locking:

You can leave a planet unlocked and let the AI builders turn it into a incomprehensible piece of modern art.

Or

You can lock it to your rank, which blocks the AI builders but also every other player who is lower than your rank.

So what if you don't mind other players building up a planet but don't want the AI dumping garbage all over it?

Thus I propose a new button to be added: Lock AI

Meaning - the planet can still be build upon by any human player, even Midshipman, but the AI builders will not be allowed to do anything to it.

There is a logic to this, by the way. Since the combat game is pretty much dominated by old veterans flying dreads and stations, this leaves little room for new players to make a difference until they can rank up. An easy way for them to rank up is by building up recently captured planets - you know, the ones captured by the old veteran players which they then can't be bothered with rebuilding afterward?

It's a perfect symbiosis: The old veterans in their mega ships take worlds, the new players do the reconstruction for points so that they can rank up ...until the AI builders come in and start turning everything into an exploded jigsaw puzzle, as they are wont to do. An "Lock AI" button would let the veterans keep the door closed to AI but still open for the new players with less rank than themselves.

- Added in /lock command. Players can now lock any planet they can govern at any rank below their own using this command. Players can specify the rank number or use the two letter shorthand (MS, EN, 2L, 1L, LC, CO, CP, 2A, 1A, VA, AD, FA, GA, MA, CM)

That about explains it

If you lock the planet at MidShipman.. Then every player can build it. But no AI can.

In the next version you can lock it at different ranks.... Time for some copy paste, from the dev log

Won't work. Maybe Ensign might.
But i do remember something about the AI having the rank required to fly there own ship. i will have to look that up as i remember that from before i joined the Dev team.
Even if that is the case then we just have to lock at LC Lieutenant Commander as the highest ranked engineer is 1st lieutenant..

Like the two above me, and this one?

erm... but to the topic at hand, is there any way to easily differentiate between AI and Player? From a code standpoint I mean.

Why would you want to ban yourself?
