So a couple years back the Adv. Mining ships could change out the Tractor Beam for another mining lazer.

You still can do that today but its put in the back and its ark won't work with the other two, so why in the world was it changed and why even bother changing it? Its laughable since it can't be used lol

It's for tractoring things. You spawn with the tractor beam as default for a reason.

there are 2 planets barely in range where you can use both, front and rear-miningbeams

Its the safer way to mine, turning your rear towards the planet you may e-jump if a siphon suddenly uncloaks to vaporize your engie, but you may only use one mining beam this way.

When scenario was more crowded engiees had a hard time, in the MV you will barely need this safe-way-mining.

You could always just face forward at an angle so when you e-jump you go right past the planet? It's entirely possible.

Getting killed in the mv is going to happen, just get a command ship if you're that worried.

i don't see why you would need to use the back for a mining beam since the enemy has to be pretty bored to go find an engie and kill it. but then again that's just me.

Like i said orginally (which no one ever seems to read) you could get a 3rd mining lazer which in turn would increase your mining rate letting you get more resorces faster.

For some reason since then it has been changed to where you get the 3rd mining lazer but now cannot use it as it has been moved to the back lol.

So since your options are A: Tractor Bean or B: Mining Lazer i fail to see the point of even giving the option.

Someone said so you can defend yourself, yet i fail to see a mining ship beating a dread back, and never a player so im still wanting a logical explination as to why this was changed in the first place.

The reason the slot has a rear-facing arc is so that you can tow platforms around with the tractor beam because you tend to pull platforms behind you rather than push them in front.

If you want to fit a third mining laser in that slot, that's your choice but don't expect it to necessarily be tactically sound.

To defend against dreads? Just ask Josef if you see him...he made scouts + tractors...a force to be feared like no other. His one lowly ship had more shock effect than an enemy fleet. Being on the recieving end of those tractors...as I got pushed into a planet...was unique to the least.

As far as I know...no such use can be done anymore...I think.

Engies are opportunity kills. If you're passing by one, it won't hurt to make a small detour and smash it. It's kinda funny, actually.
