Remove the ability to order AI except for platforms.

That is all.

I've personally never been a fan of being able to use AI armies as my personal meatshield. It can make it easy to get rid of smaller ships (most AI ships are smaller and better equipped to handle them), makes it even easier for large player forces to survive (AI HP is free HP).

There is also the knowledge that in the future AI will be much smarter and thus not only be just meatshields but effective ones too.

My personal thought is that AI would not be spawned individually but in their own fleets made up of smaller ships and a few larger ones and one leader ship. Whatever it happens to be. Homesystems would have bigger baddies.

These AI would not be able to respond to player orders and instead choose planets to attack and defend on their own. Players could help those AI in their bids if they wanted to, but at least you wouldn't see the entire UGTO armada focused on a single combat destroyer.

I feel something like this would provide a much more organized and least, balanced way to have AI a part of overall PVP without people using them as their personal army.

Yeah, I think the AI would be better used to make things interesting by grouping up and initiating fights, rather than following players around. Sure, if players want to follow the AI around and help them, that's fine, but they won't serve as a mobile meat shield to be summoned wherever.

or even make the ai trade transports player control-able or filtering them and platforms from showing up on the ai list......either way would be an improvement

And your signature horribly mangles the phrase "Klaatu Barada Nikto."

We now return you to your regularly scheduled topic.

Just a Quick question since I can never figure out how to make a horde of AI protect me - how do you actually pull this off?

That's because you(and a lot of other devs) (almost)never play.

Set them to defend.

Ordering platforms is almost entirely worthless.

I play when I can (and honestly it's not alot but it's hard to play release when you're used to beta), but I still can't figure out *how* to set them to defend. If I target any AI I just get the ability to cancel their current order (and it goes right back to their previous order)

edit: oh you need to select the ship and then right click on yours. Right then, let me see about tweaking this.

It is when you use them as they were intended to
