Sounds like you have connection issues Flutter. If you have high ping, you have to remember that when you 'first' see the beams, may be half a second after they've hit you already. There's really nothing we can do to fix high latency.

none of that matters when a ship point jumps you, or uncloaks on you.
I can't very well respond to something if I die before I see it, can I?
Scouts are depressing to fly. Fact.
Any deaths in one shouldn't be counted, or only 0.1 of a death.
I try and be useful in a non-combat role and I'm just punished for it by having a ship that has the hull integrity of tissue paper.

FYI, you don't lose anything for dying in a scout.

if you cant jump away, fly straight through the big ship with its flashlights
lasers dont do any damage, when you exit their fireing arc

You've all given some great advice, and I thank you.
But none of these tactics mean anything when a dread can kill you before the server even updates their new position right next to you and firing.
Death is too immediate to take any course of action.
Yes I try and keep out of beam range.
Yes I keep my fingers on shift J and twitch at the slightest threatening movement.
And no it doesn't matter, they still get me if they want me.
Single-move check mates are bad...

I have always thought of scouts as expendable, When you die, there is no press loss, and the attacker barely gains any either. I usually use them for beaconing bugs and in that instance I am fully prepared to die and spawn a brand new one.

Have you considered not flying small ships, and instead flying other LARGER non combat role ships? It would appear that eaither you don't have a good enough connection to fly small ships, or you don't yet know how to properly fly small ships.

Meh. Why bother with enh on a fragile ship.
They're already fast, relative stealthy, and pretty hard to hit.

Well, see, what Brutality is mentioning is precisely the scenario in which I was in.
I go around with ECCM trying to drain the K'luth ships as much as possible, while sticking them with beacons whenever possible.
I assume it was effective because they started complaining over /yell about the new cloak mechanics.
So, when beaconing targets, death is to be expected?
If I'm just scouting, I don't die because I'm usually under ECM when not scanning.
Now if only we had an interdictor... [ This Message was edited by: Fluttershy on 2012-03-18 22:09 ]

Meh. Why bother with enh on a gigantic ship?
They're already tough, have lots of firepower, and don't need to worry about stealth.

That's it. Scouts and interdictors were meant to work in pairs as a deterrent.
The problem is, everybody wants to fly combat. Not many players want to do the grunt work without the paycheck.
