If you have missiles that shoot straight up or straight down they can hit things a lot closer to you, if they turn correctly.
Theirs currently some kind of bug with missiles intercepting targets properly, we're working on a fix.

So you're giving all missile ships the ballistic arcs that the Missile Frigate had when it was first introduced?

No, we're not planning to do that. He was saying that if we did, a missile ship would be able to hit something sitting right next to it, since the missiles are counting time and not distance from launcher. They'd fly straight up, turn around and hit their target.
In theory, you could pull this off with Stations, since their missiles launch straight up and/or down. But no, we're not changing the launch vectors on regular ships.

If missiles can loop around, why isn't the minimum launch range removed?
If someone is right behind you, 50gu away, if you could fire in the other direction, there's a chance it could loop around and hit, why does it not allow this?

Because that would require exponential amount of calculation to determin the minimum arc of the missiles, its flight path, and if it would be within range.
Locking this thread as it has become a personal agenda against removing the lock distance, which is not being removed.
