Honestly, why don't they just make them a full arc shield?

I keep saying that ONE shield with 4x the numbers that covers 4 arcs would be EXACTLY THE SAME as 4 separate shields that can shunt power.

Really, the only thing it would do is make transferring shields unnecessary, because the shields would already cover all angles at once.

Why do you move shields around? To cover an arc that's being damaged.
And what happens when a shield covers all arcs? It absorbs damage from any direction.

The only purpose of having single arc shields that can shunt power is to give us something to micromanage.

why you trying to simplify stuff.

Your multi ark shield with four times the hp would actually make that ship far more powerful.

Case and point, we can only shunt 20% hp to any one ark at a time. Thus you can out damafe the shield and break through

Yeah, good point, but only because of lag.

STO has gradual shield shifting, you click once, and then for the next 6 seconds the ship will transfer some amount of shields.

The rather slow shield shunting necessitates some degree of maneuvering so it gets balanced out. It's really more of a way to reinforce an arc that WILL come under attack, rather than one that already is being attacked.

or you throw in tac-team and you shield buff instantly any arc under fire...

Yeah, but that can only be done every 30 seconds. 15 if you have 2 of them.

Tac Team 1+Tac Team 2 (or just 2x Tac Team 1) with an active purple Conn officer with Tac Team buff.

But that's something else entirely. If you can handle a BC then good, if you can't just don't use it.

The thing is, those 4 shields are twice as good as normal shields, so it would be exactly the same as 8 shields, except for the inside/outside semi-exploit.

That is not an exploit and is actually perfectly sensible. Besides, you loose overall toughness from taking a pair of reactives instead of dual layered actives.

Well, if you're relying on sheer toughness in a border cruiser, you're probably doing something wrong.

But I think actives under reactives is a good set up if you're prepared to spam that transfer button in the event that you get struck.

The reactive shields make better use of your shield hitpoints, make sure you're losing 20% less than normal, that's like... 3 blue defense enhancements...

but your also missing 25% of your total hp by taking 4 reactive over all active.

Reacrive over active for the bc makes for the best possible defence for the bc.

This setup ensures you have the most available energy for high speed combat. Moving at full speed makes the best use of the bc's manuverability.

Reactive on the outside makes best use of the shields high recharge rate and resistances.

Active shields on inside provide more available hp for those tense moments.

Bc my love. ever change or remove her, and im gone too

Devil Dog is telling me to give up, but on what? I didn't say to do anything...
I just said that putting reactives outside means they'll resist damage...

And yes, I love the border cruiser.
Sure it doesn't have torps, but it recovers from damage so quickly, it's like the pure embodiment of ICC design philosophy for endurance and tactical positioning.

I only wish we had a destroyer and possibly even a dread that follows the same concept of 2 layered shields.
Composite armor sucks
