Well you can't really escape by jumping unless its though a dictor field, any group would have a player capable of tracking, (a small ship is a trackers friend) that and the fact you consider the Carrier dread to actually be a dreadis abit amusing, when you see its a carrier dread it doesn't have the sheer presence that the EAD has you don't really CARE that the carrier is present. Its an oversized BC with a little hull extra and no manuverability.

Making a ship cloak or jump out essentially means that you've won the fight. They won't bother you for a while.

Unless there is another ship waiting to finish you off.

I have no problem running from a fight I know I can't win, but when your enemy can kill you in the time it takes to charge your jump drive and get to safety, then it is a danger.
For example, if you are a dread, and you have some destroyer after you... yeah it's annoying... but no it's not gonna ever kill you unless you are really making dumb decisions.

yeah. You must really use big ships wisely. Suppose if a frigate is after you. You attack it and that frigate's hull is crictical. Then it jumps. Remember don't go after it. Let it escape

Its not wisdom really, more like common sense.

Common sense is an oxymoron, because it's anything but common.

Depends on the situation. Sometimes if that frigate is detectable at the end of his jump (he e-jumped into a dico field of one of your planets, or near your AI or plats, etc)... you can PJ him to finish him off.
It'll take only one spacebar mash after all.

Why would you even bother? It'll just re-launch and pester you again in 30 seconds time.
Besides, sometimes I want a dread to PJ me so I can jump out, and my allies can ambush...
Ganglia with a couple mandis and siphons cloaked besides it, anyone? [ This Message was edited by: Fluttershy on 2012-07-25 21:48 ]

a good dessy / cruiser can be a bigger threat that another dread
a) dreads have roughly the same jumpdrive cooldown, if he jumps, you can jump again (partly true, luth have a faster jd)
b) player underestimate smaller ships: a cruiser/dessie can easily stay out of a dreads main cannon arc and assault- cruiser/dessies haver a nice punch for their size
